MLB 2025

MLB 2025 Spring Training starts tomorrow Feb 20th, with the Cubs @ Dodgers being played in Japan...I don't get this game from my TV provider

Feb 21 - is when we really get to play ball...I get the TB @ NNY game, then the Blue Jays the following day

Lots of trades during the off-season, notably Soto and Alonso going to the Mets and I see Justin Turner just inked a deal with the Cubs

High expectations on the NY Mets, as they have got the talent now so they better perform.

Still a few names that surprises me have not signed a deal such as Anthony Rizzo, Rowdy Tellez, Whit Merrifield, Alex Verdugo, Aaron Hicks.

The Blue Jays picked up Anthony Santander but more importantly failed to make an extension deal with Vladi Guerrero Jr. which will make him a free agent next year.

I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling about the Blue Jays this year as they just didn't do much to improve the team and lost some decent talent.

We will see if Bo Bichette can get his act together, as his performance last year was far from his best.

The Dodgers are looking good again with Ohtani looking near ready to pitch again and the re-signing of Teoscar Hernández.

Don't see the Yankees doing that great this year, as they didn't pick up anyone that great and lost some serious talent.

Anyhow, looking forward to another fun filled MLB season, as well as going to several Vancouver Canadians games in MiLB (Northwest League, High-A)

cheers

The Dodgers and Cubs kicked off the 2025 regular season with 2 games in Tokyo Japan, to which LA won both.

I had mistakenly thought they were kicking off the spring training in Japan, but it actually was this MLB Tokyo Series.

Tokyo has a very nice covered stadium with about 45,000 attendees, both games were sold out.

Technically the Cubs were the home team for both games, but clearly the Dodgers were the fan favorites.

There were more fans wearing Dodgers jerseys than you would see in the Dodger Stadium in LA, and virtually every jersey was "Ohtani 17"

So the Dodgers & Cubs have 2 games already played in the 2025 regular season, but will return to the USA for the remainder of Spring Training.

Speaking of the Dodgers, I wonder if MLB will still have Jackie Robinson day, that one day each season that every player wears Jackie's number #42, to honor the first black player in MLB?
The military story of Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball after serving as a 2nd lieutenant in the Army, no longer exists on the Defense Department’s website as part of the Trump administration’s wiping out of diversity, equity and inclusion within the federal government.

Trump ordered the Pentagon to scan federal websites for articles, social media posts, photos, news articles and videos to remove any web pages that “promote diversity, equity and inclusion.”

Spring Training is now completed, the 2025 MLB regular season starts tomorrow March 27th.

The SF Giants had the best overall record with 21-6 / .778 PCT

The Toronto Blue Jays had the best record in the Grapefruit league with 18-10 / .643 PCT

I'm surprized the Blue Jays did that well but as we all know it's just spring training, only the regular season counts.

Bo Bichette looked really decent but I also recall last year he was awesome in Spring Training then totally stunk afterwards.

Andes Gimenez and Anthony Santander (the newcomers to the Jays) both did well, I hope they can continue this trend.

Vladi Guerrero didn't do great but not bad, I hope this contract situation isn't detracting him.

It's looking like George Springer is past his "best before date" as he really struggled with a .108 average.

The Jays have some excellent young talent such as Addison Barger, Joey Loperfido and Jonatan Clase who were all sent down to the AAA team in Buffalo but I'm sure they will return to the majors soon.

Anyhow, let's play ball.

cheers

Aaron Judge didn't have the greatest spring training but he has silenced anyone who was doubting him.

The Yankees did have 5 errors which could have been costly if they hadn't been so successful at the plate

The bat thought . Speak on the bat . You cool with it ?
The “torpedo” bats will be a fad for a very short lived era.
When a pitcher sees one of those bats coming to the plate, all they have to do is pitch everything outside, and away, from the batter.
Outside pitches completely negate all of the advantages of the redesigned bat barrels.
The batters don’t realize that those bats are a great big red flag that screams DON’T PITCH INSIDE TO ME!!!
Pitchers will adapt, the “torpedoes” will blow up in the Yankees faces, and the game will move on.

On a rotational swing cool cool I can see it .

On a linear swing we are driving that outside pitch opposite way .. hands inside the ball :) and let it travel in deep ..

I am looking to see how soon the bats make it to other clubs and then into the farm systems .. Since they have ruled the bat is legal(my understanding) buy stock not going away …

The great theater already in play just got elevated to an offensively FUN level, must see with vpn tv …

I went to the Athletics home opener last night in Sacramento.
I had great seats, six rows back from the visitors dugout, an incredible view.
It was competitive early on but the Cubs ended up blowing the A’s out 18-3.
I did get to see history being made, not only was it the A’s first ever game in Sac, but also Carson Kelly, catcher for the Cubs, ended up hitting for the cycle (a single, a double, a triple and a home run all in the same game).
No Cubs player has hit for the cycle since 1993.

Getting to see major league teams play, up close, and personal in a minor league park was really exciting.

The sound was just different wasn’t it . The pop off the bat in bp. Crack of the mitt at 1st all game long .. Hearing them talk shit like they were micd up … love that shit !!!

And the cycle ,bad assed save that ticket stub .,, very very cool

It’s too bad that everything is digital these days or I would absolutely be saving that ticket stub.
They just scan a bar code on your phone to get you into the park nowadays.
Maybe I can print out my receipt from Seat Geek’s and pretend.

I’ll be going to more games later in the season.
I already have tickets to see all three games when the Baltimore Orioles are in town.
I’m a massive Orioles fan on account of my hometown team, the Rochester Red Wings, being the AAA affiliate for the Orioles though out my early years.
I actually got to see Cal Ripken Jr. play minor league ball in 1981 because of that.
Cal is my baseball god, a national treasure, and he kicked Kevin Costner’s ass!
