mH Lights

My babies are having some problems, and I know two 20w fluoros are not gonna do the trick. So I did some shopping around and came across some mH lights, 175w for $27. I asked for help in the store, and the guy said, these work right out of the box, no need for a ballast. My first question is, do you guys think they might need a ballast, and two, do think getting two of these puppies will do the trick for up to 6 plants. Thanks in advance
