Mechanical timer help

Hey guys,

I'm not sure how to set my timer for my fan and lights because the timer has two outlets and two sets of trippers which makes it confusing. I want the fan to run at all times and i'm in the vegetative stage so I want the lights to come on at 8 am and go off at 12am. The manual doesn't help at all. Here's the kind I have.

push all 4 trippers out away from the center.
slide 1 green tripper to the on time and push it in toward center.
slide 1 red tripper to the off time and push in toward the center.
leave the other 2 trippers out away from center.
plug your lights in to the timer.

you will need to plug your fan into another outlet, not the timer.

I had the red(off) tripper set at 12am. When 12 came around my lights stayed on. I don't understand what's going. I feel like a dumb ass.

Edit: Nevermind. There's a security feature on this timer that will add or subtract 15 minutes to the time u have the tripper set. I turned the wheel until it said off and the light went off.
