Male or Female?

Alright 2 questions.

I had a seed that germinated in a day, then it was left in the dark in room temperature in the same towel for 2 days, then I planted. Its been under 1600 lumen cfl spiral mini bulb thing for over a day now. Me being impacient and worried to see results [thinking it might have been dead in the first place, almost sure it wasnt] I dug it up [all the soil on the top was pretty dirt "cloddy" anyways so it didnt take any effort at all] basically just pushed soil to the side. The soil where the seeds root is at is moist though, its just the top always drys up and turns to clodds. Anyways it looked pretty much exactly the same as when I planted it, looking only at the seeds case and about 2mm of its root or whatever [the rest burried]. What I want to know is, is this normal? is it dead? how long until something else other than the root comes out of the shell [or the shell breaks off]?

Second question, what is the earliest stage I can tell male/ female, and how do I tell?

Alright thanks. Sorry for the male/ female question I just saw was in the 101 already answered lol. But anyways. Fuzz on the stalk? means female?

Well I germinated a seed, and it germinated for 4 days and ended up with a sprout 1" long, I looked at it very closely and there were very very tiny hairs all over it. I thought it was roots in the forming, but it wasnt... could that have been a female sign? By small I mean I looked in the light and squinted and I could vaguely see some very fine short hairs covering the entire sprout, so small you couldnt even feel them.

Fuzz on the stalk doenst mean female that i know of. This should help you.

Preflowers, as opposed to full blown flowers, generally appear after the fourth week of vegetative growth from seed. Check carefully above the fourth node. Please note that preflowers are very small and impossible to differentiate without magnification. A photographer's 10x loupe is handy indeed when examining preflowers.

As the images below demonstrate, the female preflower is pear shaped and produces a pair of pistils. Frequently, the female preflowers do not show pistils until well after the preflowers have emerged. Thus, don't yank a plant because it has no pistils.Pistillate preflowers are located at the node between the stipule and emerging branch.

The male preflower and flower may be described as a "ball on a stick." Frequently, a male plant will develop mature staminate flowers after prolonged periods of vegetative growth. These appear in clusters around the nodes.

The following image shows a male plant in early flowering. Staminate flowers are located at the node between
the stipule and emerging branch. Note the clusters of flowers.

Alright, after 2 days of light, and watering, and after being planted, it looks like the white part of the sprout [or whatever its called] has grown maybe 1/4" and a stalk has started growing to about 5mm so far [I think its a stalk its a diffrent color than the roots below, not white, and it connects the root part to the seed case. There are also very tiny roots in the soil now. I accidently dug it up again lol, its growing very slow compared to my first one I killed, but its still alive. I just hope it doesnt go male.

Sounds like crappy dirt if its clotting up on you.You buy good potting soil or bag od flower bed dirt? Female wont show for awhile a couple days in flowering light so at least 3-4 weeks of growing.

Its dirt from the backyard, im pretty sure it was good soil bought a couple of years ago to fill a hole, but it was moist and didnt have any bug infestations so I just took it, it probably is crappy dirt. But it does take a good form as soon as its wet.

Im unable to get to any place that sells soil though because im on foot and the closest is about 3 miles away, no way I can carry a heavy bag of soil back lol.

you don't need to get a huge bag if you're growing one plant...just get like a 5ld bag...if you're just doing a small grow

Even then I couldnt get that far itd take too long. But anyways im a complete idiot.

Due to my impatients there were about 10 seeds in the soil that I left for dead, well looking closely today I noticed 2 plants sticking out of the soil barely, with leafs, looking brown. I pulled one on accident lol im so stupid, but the others still there and its looking brown, I guess its been lacking light, so its more in light now and waterd.
