Ive never made brownies before, and was wondering if i can just grind the weed right into the brownie mix...instead of making butter? If no, can i get an explanation why not? if yes then sweet...

thanks

Try using the betty crocker mix. It calls for oil. Just grind up the bud and put it in the oil. Let simmer for about 20mins making sure not to boil/burn the weed. Then just strain off the oil and use it [the oil] in the mix. A quarter ounce of middies should do it.

Making oil in this way is very dangerous. Oil doesn't boil at low temperatures. The smoke point of whatever oil you are intending to use (probably canola or some similar cooking oil) is at least 400F. That is way too hot. The THC would vaporize out into your kitchen, and you would be left with worthless oil. If you do use this method, please use a double boiler. Otherwise, there is a thin line between where the THC will dissolve into the fat and where it will burn. Well, the line isn't technically that thin, but on a hot stove, you are screwed before you know it.

Oh, and also, do yourself a favor and just make butter. If you just grind the weed into the mix, it will get you high, but it will not be a fraction as pleasant, especially when you can't get the plant matter out of your teeth.

Make canna butter , 1/2 lb of butter, 1/4 of buds or an ounce of leaves, puree it , if u dont have ablender just crush it till it real fine dice, 1/4 cup of sugar and 3 oz of oil , plus 1/2 cup water, mix all together and bring to a boil , lower the heat and let simmer for an hour or two the longer the better , keep crushing the buds or leaves every 20 mins to incorporate the thc into the fat . after its done strain it into a bowl and allow an hour refridgeration time , when you take it out the oil and water will have risen too the top while the cannabutter will be solid , get rid of the water and oil throw it away , THC is not water soliable so it wont matter to pour out , the left over is canna butter , mix this in with ur brownies and youlll be high as fu*k , make sure not to burn the cannabis because this will destroy ur thc ..

I had never heard of boiling the water with the butter until about a year ago, when my girlfriend bought me a cannabis cookboook in NYC as a souvenir. I have always simmered the butter over a double boiler, and continue to do so. However, I like the addition of oil here. I suppose it helps put a layer of fat between the butter and the water when it separates. My question is: Why would you put sugar in it? As someone who is fairly serious about cooking, I like to keep my ingredients separate, and I have made many things with cannabutter that were not desserts. Do you know if the sugar serves a purpose? It seems like it would just dissolve in the water, and make everything sticky.

In my experience adding sugar directly helps in depleating the taste of the pot and would ultimately reduce the amount of sugar needed in a brownie mix, also by dissoliving it and cooking it will create a better flavor profile in the end because it has been boiled allowing for the flavor to reach its best. I take my cooking very seriously as well and I am a chef so I love to experiment haha, I have experimented alot and have found for some reason adding sugar helps dissapte the THC and emulsify it into the Butter , no clue why but your were dead on with your assumption of the oil . :peace:

Just have to strain it through cheese cloth and you wont have leaf matter in it

I am certainly going to give it a try next time I get to baking. I think I am long overdue, as I haven't baked anything (with weed anyway, I find myself baking some elaborate thing about every time I get really stoned) since a big spree for April 20th this year.:joint:

Thanks for the tip on the butter. Something I have been talking about doing for a long time now and am really trying to hammer down for 4/20/08 though, is a full meal of cannabis-laced food. I figure with the ability to cook THC into butter, oil, and theoretically into heavy cream, I could put together a fairly elaborate meal. A few close friends and plenty of smoke, and it could be a holiday to remember. This may be a shot in the dark, but have you ever done anything (with weed) outside the boundries of pastry and sweet things? I am dying to find someone who has that sort of experience. I am sure there has been at least one cannabeurre blanc out there somewhere.

Now these are words of experience. The first two times I made brownies with my boys we just chopped up the weed. It worked but the brownies were hard to eat.

I've always been meaning to do like a 4 course meal like this. Maybe a carpaccio di manzo with capers, shaved pecorino and some cold pressed ex virgin olive oil infused with THC as the first course. Just regular recipes with the normal fatty element infused with THC. Maybe a little arugula salad second tossed with a THC oil/ white truffle oil blend. Then maybe some sort of fish (maybe rockfish) with a balls to the wall canna-beurre blanc. Maybe a berry napoleon for dessert, with cannapuff pastry. I think the way I would do it is to keep the first couple of corses light in THC as well as flavor and portions in order to be able to well disguise the taste, and then go full throttle toward the end. Does it sound too crazy?

P.S. These examples were just off the top of my head. I had a few recipes planned a while back, but it was when I was really into Northern Italian and heavy French cooking, and would be delicious, but far too rich for a full meal. I think if I execute this, i will need to keep it fairly light, especially if I want anyone to stay after and continue to smoke bowls with me. Oh, and I don't think I will ever make puff pastry from scratch again. It is delicious, but you can't imagine a bigger pain in the ass.

yea that all sounds alright , you just wanna make sure the taste of the cannabutter doesnt ruin flavor of anything cause its strong in flavor so ur gonna have to dilute it for certain dishes , try chili bro , or salsa as an appetizer , tacos are perfect , because the spices will cover any of the cannabutter taste... thing of things strong in flavor and spice to cook .. :joint::hump:
