Long Time Smoker, First Time Grower

Hey everyone. I'm in the process of germinating two seeds and I would like to make sure everything is ready to go for my first trial and error.

I'm a bit low on money at the moment but I have collected 3 small computer fans and wired them up to a 12v adapter. I have gutted an old PC case and I would like to attempt my first grow in that until I can get some more space to work with. Anyway, I plan on going to Walmart to get some CFL bulbs that would give me decent lumens.

Since I'm low on money, I went looking for some fixtures and have found an old glass shade that has a triple socket. I removed it from the glass and checked out the imprints on the fixture. It says 250v and also 660w.

When it comes to wiring, I'm not a n00b, but I'm not an expert either. I was able to wire the fans with no problem using wire nuts and electrical tape but lighting is something I haven't really done.

I guess my biggest concern is whether or not I can use the triple socket and successfully wire it up to something. I do have a 250 power supply that came out of an old computer and random adapters from old electronics and cell phone chargers.

The triple socket has two wires coming out, white and black. What are my options here?

Thanks guys.

Oh wow, didn't know they were that cheap (never bought them) but as it stands now I'll only have enough to get the CFL bulbs. Times are tough on me right now. I still need to save up for some decent nutes later on.

Right now I have a power strip, and the only other thing that would be plugged in would be the 12v adapter I wired to the small fans.

Like I said, I have that power supply from an old computer and various adapters I've never thrown away over the years.

your going to have to wire up the fixture to your own wire you buy (get a heavy duty extension cord type (orange) or anything that is the proper gauge)
and the wire it to a plug that you buy

its not hard.

also just look up simple wiring so you know what side black and white should be on etc. where you live.

I have a bunch of orange extension cords, but what kind of plug should I be looking for?

You guys actually might of heard of where I live. I'm in Meigs County, Ohio, home of the Meigs Gold.

Hey everyone, just an update. I managed to wire it up like I did with the fans to a separate cord. Everything is working right, so I'll watch it before it goes into use. Right now I'm working on light proofing everything. So far everything is looking good, so I'll post pictures later.

I'm not concerned about the smell at this point. I'm mainly concerned about light proofing the exhaust and intake. I read about few things that you buy but like I said, right now money is tight.

Anyone recommend a DIY way to light proof my computer fans with normal household items?

You can make a decent light shield out of old cardboard....light has a much harder time going around corners than air ;)

make a of baffle?

Sorry drawing is pretty crappy...

Seems simple enough to build. I think I'll use that on my next project (might use rubbermaid tubs). The drawing is good, it shows me what I need to do just fine. Thanks.

Since my seeds were ready to go before you replied and I was in a hurry to get the PC case done, I went ahead and used a black sock to stretch over the intake and exhaust. I think it'll do for my first grow indoors.

You need you make it fairly large and thick if you want real good light shielding. Mine is an old granola bar box with no inside baffles...she pretty much glows in the dark but my light shield is only to propect flowering females from the veg ligth cycle in my little grow box. So far no hermies yet...doh..jinx....

I got the seeds going earlier today, so we'll see what happens in the next few days.

I'm still a novice at all this but I partnered up with someone with a lot of experience. We have a lot planned for this season when we can upgrade our growing conditions/lighting and I was wondering how difficult it would be to breed three strains together? I heard that 1st generation seeds lose quality if used with the same strain to reproduce again. So as long as I use the seeds of the first plant, to breed with the next plant, and then use those seeds to breed with the last one, it should be stable if grown right?

Always neat to make you own strain. I've never done but would be cool can name it and kno its unique. Kinda the pineapple express theory lol. Breed two pair of genetics then breed there baby's and so on
