This webpage is a fountain of information as a matter of fact its almost too much information. Almost on every subject that can be discussed on these boards people have replied with good and bad advice (IE flushing). So I felt it was time for me to just make an account and talk to some of you people myself and ask your advice personally instead of using the search button. I have started to read books on growing and from the site alone I have decided I want to build a WDC cabinet stealth. I am still debating on weather I will be using 18, 37 or 54 gallon totes or if I will use 5 gallon buckets. Once the cabinet/wardrobe gets here I will be able to play around with fitting and taking more exact measurement instead of measuring things at home depot and running over to the other section and seeing if it would fit. This brought wayyyy to much attention to my little project, associates asking if I need help and what am I building. I do have a few questions if someone would care to answer.
1) in a DWC system do I need to have a TDS meter that will register amounts over 999? I ask because I have one but max reading is 999. I see some post with people saying keep PPM down to 600 and some go over 1000.
2)In the stages of growing when does the plant actually start to generate a smell? again I have read does not smell until flowering and some say it starts in vegetative
3)If I do decide to do a tote setup, how many gallons per plant? what I'm really asking is how many plants to a lets say a 37 gallon tote? I see premade DWC with 6-10 net-pots but, I have seen the root mass of only 2 plants in the same system and it did not look like there was any room for more plants.
4) what is the quietest most effectient air pump, I see a lot of people have bought that tetra from petsmart but is it quiet?
