My plant just sprouted yesterday and the seed coating just fell off. Should I immediately begin an 18-6 light cycle on it. I am using compact florescents (if that makes any difference)

Yep, put it under the light right away, if you have less than 42w (actual) bulbs then put them about two inches above the plants. 42w or above more like five inches.:leaf:

I'd recommend going 20/4 if you're using CFLs. I read a post on another forum where a guy tested all the photoperiods and found 20/4 to be the best. People go 18/6 mostly to save money, and that wont affect you as CFLs are much cheaper to run than HID

I think you will get people advocating both 24/24 and 18/6

Some for extra growth potential. Some for energy savings. Some for letting them sleep a bit.......

Both ways should work.
