Im fairly new to this hobby and am only on my 2nd harvest. I have steadily been upgrading stuff and have good control over my environment now with only a 6 degree fluctuation between day and night temps, (64-70). Recently I upgraded to 8" ducting and fans, and now need to upgrade my lights to be 8" as well. Currently Im using 6" hoods with 8" adapters. Now here is the thing, I need to stay below 2.5KW for everything, lights, fans, pumps etc. So this does leave me restricted. My growspace is 6' x 8'. Currently it is covered by 2 hoods. So Im trying to think of ways to increase light to my plants.
Option A is pretty well known. I could just go with two 8" XXXL or Raptor hoods to cover my area. One with a 1000w for late flowering and the other with a 600 for early flowering.
Option B is more experimental with 4 OG hoods, each with a 400w bulb. Now with the OG hoods, they are proven to throw down the same intensity of light as a 1000w bulb in a Raptor using only a 400w bulb. Only that is over an area around 2.5 ft square.
My thought is that with the OGs I could give a larger part of my garden the light of a 1000w bulb while using less power. 4 bulbs @ 400w = the same power usage as option A.
Either way I go lights will be on a light rail system.
Any opinions either way?
