Lighting systems - which components are worth spending more on?

I was looking at this site selling light systems, and I was wondering how important the different components of an HID lighting system are. Basically I'm looking for the most bang for my buck, so if it's worth spending the money then I have no problem with buying the higher end model.

1) Reflectors - is it worth $80 to get this instead of this? Is it even worth buying a reflector, or should I just make one out of mylar? Are the vents on these reflectors very beneficial?

2) Bulbs - I see on many sites that Hortilux is considered a high-end bulb. What's so much better about them, and is it worth spending $45 more on a Hortilux bulb rather than getting a standard HPS bulb?

3) Ballasts - High-end for $210 vs. low-end for $145. Both support MH and HPS bulbs. Once again, is it worth the extra cost?

Any suggestions or opinions are greatly appreciated.

they sell lumen meters at photography shops. Of course, they will tell you how many lumens of light you are getting.

I say yes but on the same token find the stuff used on craigslist and save some money...I have the hydrofarm powerhouse ballasts and their great but I wouldn't pay retail for them=)and I got some used reflectors with 6" in/out for like $40 each used..=)

You want a good reflector air cooled preferably
digital ballasts are great quiet stay pretty cool less noise is a great perk
i recomend getting a good bulb too

if im going to spend money though i like to get quality i think its well worth the extra money

you can get a 400w hps/mh 6"air cooled reflrector digital ballast adjustable hangers and good bulbs for $300-$400 from htgsupply.com
