Lighting schedule

My lighting schedule recently got out of order, the power went out for a few hours the other day, my plants werent growing with the light i had so i had to get a new one. And now I dont know what my lighting schedule should be, i was at 18/6 but when my plants werent growing i switched the lighting back to 24 hours until the plants got stronger (they have :)) i just want to make sure thats the right thing to do and if its not what is the proper thing to do. Im switchign the plants back to 18/6 tonight.
Also i live in a area where storms are frequent and power outages are a norm. whats something i can do for my plants if the power goes out during the 18 hr cycle??

thanks
much love

how old are your plants? young plants, 1-2-3 weeks old concentrate mostly on growing a robust root system, and do not usually appear to be doing much above the dirt. light interruptions can stress the plants a bit, but the only way to avoid this happening in areas where there are power outages frequently is to build a bank of batteries to keep the power uninterrupted for the duration of the outage. They sell battery backups for computers called uninterruptable power supplies, if you are only using a few cfl's you can probably get away with using one of these, but if you are using any serious wattage they would not cut it.

Years of experience have shown me that anything more than 14 hours a day will work for vegging. However, the best results for photosynthesis will always be 24 hours of lighting per day. Photosynthesis only occurs under lighting, and this plant needs no resting/dark period; The only good reason to have a lighting schedule for cannabis is to save power and have a lower bill and to trigger flowering. 24/0 and 12/12 are always successful. Don't over think and don't try to fix what isn't broken. That said, it is your property and your choice. This is just my opinion.

Hope this helped.

my plants are almost 3 weeks old but look liek their a week and a half because of my lighting issue.
and yes thank you that did help :)

Good advise abt getting uninterruptable power supplies. I've often thought of getting one myself, fortunately we don't have power outages too often.
