lighting question??????

got a new light and it came with a piece of glass to cover the bulb, does this take away from the light output and lumens. Can I use it without it? Wt is the purpose.

The glass is usually to seal the light for aircooling. I don't think that it will affect the output though glass does block uv radiation.
