Ok.....I have my room wired today for 220 for my lights. I have never setup a 1000 watt light with a 220 ballast. What timer should I use with the 220 ballast?

Thanks for the help. I dont want to have to buy a really expensive one at this point. Just one that is safe and will work. Thanks guys and heres a hit for those that help out...:joint:

Might be a good idea to run a "contactor" from your mains as the power surge that comes from sparking up a 1000W lamp can be pretty big ( so im told ) It will protect your timer from burning out , As far as timers are concerened , If your on a budget just get one has ha safty rating that suits your budget .... dont go to cheap as you get what you pay for with most things :).... you can pretty much see when you go to a store whats crap and whats not ... just suit your budget for now but be sure that what you buy has some kind of safty standard test

Good luck

Although your 1000 watts on 220 volts result in just around five amps, which isn't too much on a 20 or 15 amp circuit, I still think you should get a good, solid timer instead of the cheapest kind that would work. Inductive loads like ballasts are harder on a timer's contacts than resistive loads like regular lightbulbs are, and it's the contacts that open and close that are the weakest links in a timer. Get a "real" timer like the Intermatic or similar Tork model, (get the model designed to run on 220). These are hard wired timers that mount to a wall that are easy to set, groundable, and have robust contracts. You can find them on ebay for about $35.00. Get a good timer and wire it right and you won't have to worry about burning your house down or having your wires smolder and causing some unfortunate contretemps.

If i'd run off 220 i'd get a Intermatic T104 timer wired on a dedicated 15 amp circuit. The T104 is Double Pole Rated upto 277v and Yeah i know a 1000w ballast on a 220 will consume only 5 amp, but a dedicated circuit for a hard wired timer is crucial. Safety first.

i am running a hot water timer. i'l take a pic and post for you..

i bought a heavy gauged 3 way extinion cord cut the 3 way off and wired it into the timer. now i can run three ballasts off that timer. i just used the stander 110 plug from the ballast and just rewierd it for 220... all my fans are 110 so i have them come on 15 min b4 the lights and 15min after the lights go out.. the timer was onlt 35 dollars
