Let's Build a Flowering Room! -Read-

Alright... Here's the deal. I've got my veg room done. Now I'm moving on to the flowering room. Below is a diagram of what I have to work with. It is a basement room, quite cool during the summer. Concrete floor. Currently a laundry room with a bunch of random shit soon to be moved out, its just been used for storage and after all is removed the only things to remain will still be the washer\dryer.

The house also has central air and there is a open ceiling with an exposed duct coming from above the next room a few feet on up to the ceiling. I'm not sure if this can be tapped into for anything but this duct feeds the house air\heat. There is a window to the east of the diagram which will be boarded and not used. There is a window in the south of the diagram which exists UNDERNEATH an addition to the house. This is absolutely PERFECT for a source of air as well as a vent for my ductwork. I wish to have a closed system to cool the lights and a vent hooked up to a can fan and a carbon scrubber. Something like 440cfm for the carbon scrubber, and another 200cfm for the lights. I'm going to be building my own aeroflo type system using pcv fence posts which have a uncut length of 8'. Basically I want to utilize this space to the very best of my ability and before constructing the aeroflo system need some help with a floorplan....

If you feel you got some ideas copy the image and map it out as you see fit. Ventilation? Lighting? Location and length of the aeroponic systems. (I'm probably going to go with 3 "tables".... each having roughly 30 3" cups. So figure a hps w/ vented reflector/cool tube for each.... there is also plumbing I can tap into here if that matters....

Hopefully a few people will help out and perhaps we can all form a final floorplan here I'll make reality. Any information you need from me, just ask. I'll keep on this thread until there is a final floorplan then I'll gather the items and we'll roll.

My budget is about $2500USD, I'd like to keep it wayyyyyyyyyyy under that if possible but thats what I have to work with so I figured I'd give you a realistic limitation.

Have at it! And thanks for all the help in advance. For reference I would like to get something going similar to stinkbud's setup he posted here: https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/116859-harvest-pound-every-three-weeks.html

WOW nice budget :hump:
Figured if I let people know what budget I had to work with I may get some realistic and informative ideas. Let's hope :)

Going to go to lowes in a bit to stock up on some pvc fence posts in the meantime.

Feel free to go nuts within that budget, just keep in mind it will be a DIY aeroflo type system and I at least need a path somewhere in the room to walk. Other than that, go apeshit. I'll build to suit! lol

alright...first question. I plan on building a dyi aeroflo system using pvc fencing posts. i made a quick sketch ill post here so you kinda get the idea of what im looking to accomplish. dimensions will be off but you'll get the idea. I'm going to have it run the north south length of the room against the wall, underneath the pvc posts will be a long section of gutter which will be the runoff drain into the reservoir located underneath, along with the pump. what kind of pump do you think will run a system like this? 40-50gal reservoir work well? will it be timed or constant spray?

and my biggest question... lighting. I was thinking about purchasing a light mover to do this right, moving the lights north to south over the whole row. do you think this would be an ideal setup? how many, 600's or 1000's? i plan on using a closed system venting the lights so ill probably end up going with cool tubes or something similar.

this is a starting point.... ideas?

thanks!

2 x Xtrasun Sodium 1000 Watt Ballast
2 x Daystar Air Cooled Reflector - 6 Inch
Hanna Meter HI9813-0 pH/EC/TDS
Hydrofarm CO2 (1-20 cubic feet per hour) with Timer
Can 50, 420 CFM with 6 Inch Flange
100 x EZ Clone 360 Replacement Mister

now to hit up home depot, walmart, and a pond supply shop for everything else.......

right now im still trying to figure out exactly how i want to do the ventilation.... i have the ability to do a closed system that can pull air from outside to vent the lights and then back out. then probably another pulling air from the room thru the carbon scrubber and then outside?

if anyone has any suggestions or ideas feel free to copy the floorplan picture and go nuts in mspaint LOL

Nice, Bra! I am just finishing my room up now (started at the end of December!) I will flip the lights on my first two Stink flower units tomorrow! It has been lots of fun! I took ideas from past grows, grows I have seen and read about, and the advice of those like Stink. Keep us posted on how you proceed! Have fun!

wait a minute! i just went back and read the beginning again. this room is just for FLOWERING?!? is the rest of your house devoted to germination, cloning, sexing, mothering, vegging, curing, packaging, shipping, and billing? well, no matter. the real point here is to make the most of what u are doing and getting in the end. what kind of yield do u want, and how much time are u willing to work at it? that's the ? most ppl forget to ask.

I've got a closet room going right now which will hold a few small mothers and veg clones for 3-4 weeks at most. I'm shooting for a "perpetual" type harvest, rotating a batch of clones in every 15 days and harvesting the oldest. If I can pull 3/4lb to 1lb with each harvest I'll be quite pleased. Anything more will just be hash, oil, or baked goods. I can make some mean brownies. :)

OK, now i am confused. if you perpetual harvest this much quanity, you'll need at least two full time gardner types just to do triming, drying and curing, right? wait, i get it, you have eight kids living in tents in the back yard. it's good that they learn a trade before they plunge into the big bad world. hehe.
seriously, do u know how much work u are taking on?

Good thread, I'm linked. Good luck, and can't wait to see what comes of this. I recently built a small grow room in my garage, and still don't have it how I should. I just don't really know what to do with the space. I should have done what you did, and started a thread for ideas how to equip my room. Haha. Nice shit tho, and happy growin my brotha. Peace.

I would say go with 600w bulbs, that should save you on your electrical bill I've used a 400w in a 3x3' and get half pound plus from 4 plants. I also think a square works better for light reflecting than a rectangle but light movers do change that. The enclosed system for the lights sounds good in theory but I have found the edge of the glass (unless you tape it but thats a pain to pull off) lets the stinky air blow out with the light's air, also bringing in air from outside brings in pests (yeah filters should stop that). Here is what I would do, if the space is 4' wide by 12' long and 7' high (guessing on that 7') I would break it out into 3 squares that are 4x4' which gives you 16 plants per square (I like to give them a foot each but I do deep water culture) buy three 600w HPS bulbs and place them centered on each square with the vents lined up. Box the whole 4x12' space and paint the walls with white roofing paint($75 bucks at home depot for 5gallons) which reflects 95% of the light so trust me when I say where sun glasses in the box. Put a 6" vent and inline fan/s on both ends of the room too cool the lights, then for each square put a 4" fan on diagonal corners one a third of the way up from the base of the plant and another one at the top (maybe attach to the light so it can raise and lower). Then to move all the air in the room two big 24" fans on each end, one pushing and one pulling the air. Build a smaller room next to the flowering room (at the other end from where the air comes out) for all the air to meet in (the room's and the lights) you could add an A/C unit to here if you need to or it might cool from just being away from the lights. Then put that same air back into the room with the input fan (add a "Y" so the light's always pull in cool air) If you do this and it is sealed then no smell problems but you will and should anyways add CO2 to the room. I haven't done all the math as far as what size fans you need but if you have small ones to move the CO2 around and big ones to clean the room's air you should be good. As for the water part I couldn't really tell you other than to have 3 sperate parts for higher and lower nute levels
