knowing when to harvest

LOL, i have seven nice plants and one that might make it if it gets over whatever it is that is bothering it. most are densely budded tops and popcorn bud side branches. they are only about 5 months old. some are very skunky, gently touching the bud leaves my fingers sticky. the vast majority of the hairs on teh buds are white, with a few (10 -15%) that are brownish in color. They have healthy vegetative leaves.
First frost where i live in Florida is within a week of Thanksgiving on either side. is it a general rule to wait for frost , then harvest? If i wait, my plants will be about 7-8 months old. Is there a visual sign that it is time to harvest, regardless of frost?
Plants were started from a good grade commercial green smoke, started inside, taken outside on 5/1 when i had two sets of complete leaves. They are grown right in the dirt, root ball surrounded by a 50/ potting soil peat moss mixture.
I want to get the max. yield and potency of my plants, and do not want too take a chance of harvesting too soon/ too late, thereby messing up my crop. I do not expect to get more than a pound total crop, if i am lucky. let's see if i can get some pics.
The pics were taken yesterday. some of the tops are nice. i am kinda new to this and want to do right by my crop. This is all for my head , because i am getting tired of the crap that passes for weed these day and the prices that people want for it. any help will be appreciated, thx

Good for you.

I agree, people on the street think rag weed is fucking gold. Seems like it anyway.

When to harvest... Well you can harvest anytime after you see buds and you will get high. The most popular way to "tell" when its ready is to look closely at the buds, see that stuff that looks like powder? Those are called trichomes. Get a magnifying glass, when the buds are growing they are clear. when they are ripening they are cloudy, when they start to turn an amber color the plant is dieing and if you haven't cut yet, Its time.
