Just keep it in veg, away from any males and well fed/watered.. Most people keep a mother in a separate room, but you can keep one in a little grow box or something..

I have a tiny cabinet that's about 3 to 4 feet tall that I use for both rooting cuttings and for keeping little mothers. I keep the moms trimmed up so they never get very big running in little home-made DWC buckets (converted from plastic coffee cans).

The cabinet is looking ghetto after being converted for different uses so many times, but the plant on the left was just trimmed up today (for the fourth time). The one on the right *just* rooted and it is a cutting from the mother on the left. Nothing fancy, currently they just get a 26w CFL for their light needs:

I can fit up to 6 in there at any one time if needed. Very simple and easy to maintain.
