just got carbon fitler...prefilter all dirty...

So I just got my new carbon filter in the mail today. The package was marked fragile but it took quite a beating on the way here...the fragile sticker was almost ripped off the box, and the box has a few dents in it  So the pre-filter is all covered in black carbon dust. There was a bunch of dust in the box too. Is this normal? I was expecting it to be all white and purty. Should I wash it or will it pull some of the carbon out when I run the filter? It'll be running inline with a cooltube and I don't want to coat my light with carbon. Thanks!

Remove any carbon from your filter and try vacuuming the prefilter.

If this doesnt help wash in the washing machine on a wool cycle and allow to dry naturally before using.
