It occurred to me this morning as I was rolling one up that perhaps there are some fledgling joint enthusiasts out there that are still using traditional materials and methods for their endeavors. I personally consider myself a Jedi of everything involving Rolling, so here's my method and favorite materials at the moment. If you feel yours are even more righteous, or can compare to the perfection, by all means: feel free to throw them up in this thread.
I used to use the standard zig zags, but then about a year ago I started researching and purchasing dozens of different papers to find the One. These Organic Hemp Raw papers are outstanding and I don't think I'll be any looking further. For now. The papers are unbleached, raw hemp material, and as is becoming prevalent in the latest paper-tech scene, the papers are cross-hatched; that is, they are gridded to prevent running during smoking. No more licking your pinky and trying to even out the ember. How epic.
I like to roll cone joints, so I start out with one corner folded in and creased. I then fill the column only half-way before engaging the roll. ( if you fill the entire cone up before rolling, you will end up losing some buds out of the top/side because with a cone there is a large gap at the top of the paper until you secure the ends together)
Next I begin the roll with a bamboo mat to ensure uniformity. The perfection of the initial roll point is critical to how the rest of roll will fall. As long as you get the mouth-piece perfect, the rest of the roll will follow suit.
Slowly but surely, pack in the grinds,( not too tightly) to ensure good compactness, yet retaining some small voids for the flame to be able to access oxygen to keep the ember lit and at a steady pace.
Lastly, the crutch and finishing procedures. I like to accordion-style my crutches, but you may prefer rolling them. Then twist off the end( with the grain, in thdirection the paper is oriented), and you're done.
