is this light sufficient for what i'm doing?

grow area is 3x3 and i have a 400 watt (120volt if thats important) MH light.

it's BRIGHT as hell and gives me spots in my eyes if i look anywhere near it.

but i bought it at an electrical shop and spent 140 for the whole thing (light, fixture) then i wired up a socket and voila!

but does that sound right to everyone?

the guy says it's used to light construction sights typically.

sorry, no photo. and can't find anything about lummens on the packaging.....

does the 400wt mean that the lumens are probably enough?

yeah that 400 will do good in your closet, the only thing that i question is the hood you are using, those hoods are meant to light up over a large area at great distances and from what i have seen is in a closet it will focus the light pretty much in the center so the light dispersal is not ideal, if i were you i would get a cheap light meter and then use that to adjust the height of the light so it is as even as you can get it, i used one of those lights in the past and what i found is that i had to hang the light about a foot and a half higher than normal to even out the huge hot spot which is a far from ideal situation

well, i'm not using a closet, have a spare bedroom i don't use. the heat is something i'm trying to monitor and the light gague sounds like a good idea.

what's the ideal that i should be looking for or trying to get to?

anyone else have thoughts on MH lights?
