Is this cloning technique okay?

hey everyone

I did my first cloning today.

supplies: 3.5 tbsp/gallon Green Light Rooting hormone and fert 5-15-5 (as directed...)

1 tbsp Molasses/gallon

I saturated jiffy with this solution

Cut my clones off with a sharp razor, held under water at an angle for 25-30 seconds, then shoved them about 1/4 inch deep into the saturated jiffy. I packed the jiffy around the stem to make sure it was covered and that they could stand a bit

They wilted down for 15 minutes but i hear thats normal

They are under 2 T5s, a 13w work light and a Blue LED spotlight from HTGgrowsupply

How long should I expect to see roots? a day? two?

If they die..its okay I can try again it. I can go get rooting powder but...id rather use a solution.

Ill check back in a few to see if anyone read. Thanks everyone! happy growing

Also...when can i expect to transplant out of jiffy (or into a bigger container...i got 5 inch peet pots for when the roots get bigger)

I'm no clone expert, but i believe u should've used just the root hormone, and put the hormone like 1-1/4in up the stem of the clone, then plant the clone an inch deep so there's 1/4in. ofthe mormone still above ground. Also, clones don't need a lot of light, try puttin it under a sigle fluro and see if it improves, no nutes, or use 1/10th strength. Good luck, maybe someone with some real cloning expertise will pop in to help.

GrowTech

stays relevant.
sometimes clones will wilt at first. give them time and see if they recover. this is why I love rapid rooters, I have never seen my cuts wilt since I started using rapid rooters.

growtech and toke

thx alot im gonna go to lowes tomarrow and look for clone gel

they did wlt and i will watch fr recovery

ill also look for rapid rooters

w00t i love experimentation lol

u can also use superthrive as ur dip or cloning hormone. 30-60 seconds a cutting placed directly in the dip then put in a plug. Im getting roots on most in 6 days.

Sorry to hear that. But hey, there's always next time right? And u'll be better prepared with a bit of experience as well so it's not ALL bad.

You need a humidity dome or they will die.
The clones absorb moisture through the leaves until the roots develope (2 to 3 weeks) horme gel or powder helps this process to happen faster, so basically you need to mist them daily and the dome stops them drying out.
You also dont need too much light, a flouro tube works best with clones/

Hi Canine,

Sorry to hear they didn't make it. I tried my first cloning on NewYear's Day. They are still going but I don't know how long before the roots grow. I watched a couple of cloning videos and then had to take a leap of faith...following the least sophisticated approach. I cut a branch with a couple of leaf levels, cut the bottom fan leaves, trimmedremaining leaves about half way down, scribed the stem on one side, dipped in rooting powder and stuck in a very wet seadling mix (peat moss and perlite) No dome but warm. Hope they live but experimenting is really fun. Let us know when you try it again and I'll keep you posted if mine make it.

Hey Bro check it out. I have a thread on a very simple cloning technique involving a cut, a dip and then being placed in a simple cup of tap water in indirect light for root structure. It works everytime. Sometimes sooner than others but if ur patient roots will form and on average within the first ten days if u change the water in the cup everyday so it doesnt stagnate..I seen this thread before sorry about ur recent failure.Ive had my fair share.

Im going to say something thats going to really ruin alot of peoples thoeries of dome, humidity what have u and so forth who cares. I honestly dont.

I just did a side experiment. Very simply just started cutting with no abandone, and popping them in the cups of water with no dip or care if they made it or not cuz i could have cared less my tubs are full..
The point is that in less than 11 days i just gave a few of my friends and family members cuttings like i said i was going to if it worked out..
Please consider this before u clone again man. no gimmicks, no science just str8 up proven results. Bro good luck

Hope that helps.

... sounds simple enough... so u just throw em in the water after a dip in the hormone and let em sit til they grow huh? Lookin to do some hw on the cloning thing myself...

Yea man honestly was too simple this last time i didnt even dip them or worry about the 45 degree angle cut.. Just placed them in about 1/2 to an inch of water and changed it daily and placed the cups on the side of my moms in the veg room in shaded low cfls light @ 18/6 from day one...
The less u complicate things i think the better the outcome is.
