Lately ive been hearing that you can put mh bulb in a mv light or a hps bulb in a mv light.
something about they just have to be a conversion bulb like mh/hps, or something of that sort.
Does any one have a converted light set up like the one i mentioned ?
if so did you have to do any wiring ?
any negative side effects ? like a short bulb life or any thing like that.
ive been looking around the internet for info on this but im having very little
succsss getting any difinative answers
peace out and thanks in advance

Let me first state I am a supa noob . But we recently purchased a 600w HPS ballast , then bought a 600w MH conversion bulb . It works great . Just plugged the ballast into regular outlet and pluged the hood into ballast . No special needs . Don't know if that helps , but gl !

So I ahve been researching this also and Ill tell you what Ive found. You cannot put a regular hps bulb in mh fixture. You can put regular mh in hps fixture but not recommended and sometimes may not work. Conversion bulbs will have a shorter life. From what ive read they also do not contain the full spectrum a regular bulb will give you. I statrted a thread on this subject and heard nothing positive about conversion bulbs. Although the guy here said they work great. I havent been able to decide yet. You can almost get a mh ballast and bulb for same price as conversion bulb. Ask yourself if oneday you may want to have a veg room and a flower room. If so it is beneficial to buy the mh ballast and bulb.

im real greatfull for all your comments guys but yall are misunderstanding me.
i dont think i was clear enough or i just phrased it wrong.
the question is....
Can you use any kind of hps or mh bulb in a murcury vapor light set up. as in can i hook up /wire a metal halide bulb onto a mercury vapor ballest ?

aka the lights used on the side of barns or the lights used to light parking lots

i have heard of people sucsesfully putting a mh/hps or a reg mh bulb into a pre asembled mercury vapor light set up

like they got the ballast with the reflector and simply took the mv and put a mh in and it takes a bit longer to light (5 mins)
its sayd to only work on newer ones due to some sort of ignitor or something

+ rep to any one with a definitive answer
and or proof it works & woulnt burn my house down

Conversion bulbs used to be something I would not recommend. However they have been greatly improved upon in the past few years.

A mercury vapor ballast won't light a MH or HPS bulb. Also, I'm not aware of any MH conversion or HPS conversion bulb that will light in a MV ballast. I'm in complete agreement with the other posters that a MH conversion bulb in a HPS ballast is tried-and-true.
