Is it worth it?MH for Veg>?

So I have several switchable ballasts and am wondering is it really worth it to run a 1000w MH opposed to my 1000hp during Veg>? Im only going to Veg for 2-3weeks..

if you have the means, then do it.

I dont really believe it is. I've grown strains with 1/4 to 1/2 inch internodes using HPS bushy and branchy as hell. Had no problems with main stems as thick as D-cell batteries.

I veg and flower under HPS. My buddy uses MH for veg and HPS for flower. My plants always seem to be alittle more bushy, gurthier. If thats a word.

i think it was somthing to do with there being more lumens per watt in hps but your plants will grow faster on mh if your plants are bigger before you flower bigger yeilds ?

- yeah, I think it's something like that. The MH would probably allow you to switch to veg a little earlier. It would take a little more time for an HPS vegged plant to reach the size of a MH vegged plant to reach the same size. I'f you're moving through alot of crops, the MH helps you cut down on times and improve your yeild for the time growing. so technically it's a little better, but u can do alright with HPS If you don't want to upgrade

MH light is more BLUE which reduces Stretching, however it is lower in intensity watt for watt than HPS.

It has it benifits and tradeoffs IMO.

Personally, I would do it. There is a reason that just about everyone does it and it is generally agreed upon that MH is better for veg while HPS is better for flowering. GG is right about the trade-off, as HPS are more economical giving you more actual light intensity per watt, however since the blue spectrum is what the plants technically "prefer," regardless of any individuals performance with any light source (any plant will grow under a 1000w HPS), I would veg with MH if you have the means. Actually, especially since you are planning on vegging for the shorter time period. If time were not an issue it wouldn't be as big of a deal to veg with HPS, but you will get better growth patterns (smaller internode length, etc.) with the MH in your couple weeks.
