is it possible to grow horizontally????

i have the perfect stealth spot, (in the inside of an old camp trunk), but it won't be stealth if its on its side standing up... theoretically, as long as your light and pot were horizontal, could it grow hor? i know its called photo-something that makes shoots grow towards and roots away from light... but could this work? lemme know...
