Is it ok to Stick with Cfls?

I am currently growing three babies with 6 100 watt cfls they are currently 2 days old and about a inch and a half or so in height and I am thinking about using miracle grow to fertilize them in about two in a half more weeks this is my first grow.. any suggestions??? and how long do i have to veg my plants before changing the lighting cycle??? :joint:

I dont go by time when changing to flower, I go by height. Most of the time the plant will double sometimes triple it's height when switched. Also I used cfl's for the entirety of my first grow, just make sure you have the right spectrum for what stage of growth you are in.

yeah dont use miracle grow it will burn your plants, if you can get anything else it will be better but worst comes to worse use miracle grow. and ryan is right about what he is saying, it all matters about how much space you have to grow them. i am currently growing in a 5ft tall tent so i cant let my plants get too tall in the veg stage or it will out grow my tent in flowering. if you are limited in space you can find ways of making your plant bushy by using LST or a scrog. if your not sure what LST is check out my grow journal it is at the bottom of this post. if it is your first grow i would recommend cfls because they are cheap and if you mess up you dont have to much put into the grow op so it wont be as bad. and also putting up with heat problems is kind of difficult and cfls make hardly any heat unlike HPS..... +rep

i have heard many people say that it does and my buddy used it and he got the same results, maybe it wont burn your plant all the times but people often get this result from using it, like i said if he could get something else it would be better but if its all he gots then to use it.

dont use miracle grow... that is honestly a very stupid thing to do.. its bad enough to use cfls but miracle grow is an insult to ganja and it has time released shit that will fry your plant, and you cant flush out that nast miracle grow taste.. its just all around bad.. if your broke buy guano, its very inexpensive and quite effective

Well i can understand why the soil would burn them, but not the nutes. I'd think it's the amount you give them, not what kind of nutes you are using that will burn them. I grew my last grow with 2 different miracle gro nutes that was probably less then 10$... I Was happy with it.

Have you grown with cfls before? If you haven't how do you know it's bad enough to be using cfls? They do pretty damn well in my opinion. And are cheap. I grow on a budget, that's why i use cfls and miracle gro. And they get the job done without spending hundreds of dollars on supplies.

i've seen people use miracle grow nutes just fine.. of course they aren't the best choice as they are made for a wide variety of plants, but they will get the job done fine.. just make sure you only use like 1/4 of the strength that is calls for on the bottle or you will burn your plants, after all nute companies are in business to sell more nutes, so sometimes they tell you to use more than what is really needed so that you'll use them quicker and buy more of them sooner..
and as far as cfls, i've also seen some pretty solid grows using them... you'll want the 6500k ones for vegging and the 2700k's for flowering, or of course you can always mix and match, which i think is always good.. just be sure to use more of the veg style for vegging and less of the flowers, and vice viersa for flowering..
keep them about an inch or two away from your plants, and use as many as you can possibly fit into your grow and you can have good results this way..

If your plants are in soil and are only 2-3 days old you dont need to feed them yet, you have a few weeks.
What are you using for soil? Is the soil MG too?

You can get better nutes for short money man.Check out Jacks Classic and Botanicare, Ive used both they work well and are cheap.

i agree with GMZ i have seen alot of good grows from cfls, the only downside is that it is hard to get big yields from cfls compared to when using HPS

And I agree with you! After my first go around using cfl's I switched to hps and doubled my yield. Could have been a multitude of reasons why but I blame the lighting the most for the increase.

yes actually i have just to see why so many people on this forum were so slap happy about it.. and i used dwc with organic nutes, had ok results but found it to be a complete waste of time when i was also growing with hids.. i can understand why people who live in apatment complexes or dorm rooms would want to use cfls.. but if you have the space to hang an hps and no landlord to inspect your house then using cfls is a pointless venture.. small yields, mediocre at best quality, and alot of dioxin if you grow in a rubbermaid.. i just find it to be silly, like fake vomit or shocking gum.. the results when compared to using grow lights are like a mountian next to an ant hill and its just comical. but if your living in an apartment, and you love growing as your hobby, more power to you, but if your using cfls your a hobbyist at best. not a serious grower.

I agree bout the height, all depends on the size of growroom my first grow was way to big for the space(lucky 2 out of 4 were males otherwise dont no what id of done)but you can bend and shape the branches to some extent.. I kept my first grow from seed on veg for about 6-7weeks(i no its long but the circumstances were right). Got a great yield tho after 7 weeks flowering, well i think it was, 5oz from 2 plants, bubble gum seeds from the dam

This is now my second hydroponic grow.. My first with CFL tho, last grow was wit 250 HID (with amazing results i must say),Im just after getting a 250watt cfl and reflector today now for my veging room, have 6 clones at the moment planing on keeping 4 maybe 5, its set up and its looking good. does anyone have experience wit these laps tho cause im being v carefull?? ive had them under a fluorescent till now and noticed the new leaves coming thru are kinda deformed..CFL is amazing tho cause even in the few hrs ive had them under the new light ive noticed a difference..

Is there any advice anyone can give me?? how far should i keep the bulb from my 2-3week old clones, the bulb doesnt seem to be to hot, ive got the bulb about 6-8" away now?

This farming is very addictive tho, you get the best smoke ever known to man. All for yourself..........

CFL should be kept 1-3 inches away from the plant, 6-8 inches away and your plants are gonna ssstttrrrreeetttcccchhhh out.

i used miracle grow my first grow is was some time realease bullshit and buds were harsh also i had alot of leaf problems dont know if it was because of miracle grow.My next grow i used all natural home made nutes like for veg urine/milk/always use egg shells fot both veg and flower every week ill crack up 3 egg shells and mix it in my two plants soil .also in flower i boil eggs and add bannana peels to the water and i throw in a tablespoon of honey because I dont have mollases I also threw in some organic soymilk and they really seem to love this water as some flower nutes of course i take the bannapeels out the water when done boiling and then i mix this water with my gallon jug
