Is it better to keep the LAMP LOWER or HIGHER UP?

I have 4 females about 3 1/2 weeks into a good vedge, and the light is approximately 18-24 inches above the pots. In General, is it better to keep the light closer to the tops of the plants? If I just keep the temperature and airflow good in the room, does it matter how close i put the light? Thanks in advance!

You need to keep the lights as close as possible without burning the tops of your plants. Use the back of your hand at the canopy level and raise or lower the light until your hand is comfortable.

Its a tradeoff between light and heat. Closer and you get the more light your plants get and as a result, faster photosynthesis. But photosynthesis slows down when temperatures get too high. I keep my 250w about 6" from the tops of my flowering plants with temps around 73-78 using 4 pc fans and two 6" mini desk fans.

if your lights arent easy to raise and lower.

put some blocks under your plant.

and light distance is all relative to various factors, lumens, spectrum, relfectivity of walls etc. technicly if your lumen value is high enough the plants shouldnt NEED to be closer.
