is 62% RH to high to Dry??

Hello RIU,
Before I go crazy spending money on a tent and fan to have a controlled space to dry, can somebody tell me if I need a sealed environment?

I ask because my homes RH is 63-64%, isn't that to high for drying?

If I buy the tent I have a dehumidifier waiting to stand inside to control the RH.

well the rh of the bud is targeted anywhere from 50-62, so i would guess you'd want it anything lower than 62..
if i were you, maybe try running an a/c on a dry cycle at around 70 degrees (unless your room is lower than 70; it wouldnt run)

63-64 may be a tid bit too humid , and if it were me i wouldn't risk losing a harvest over it , so be sure i'd use a little extra fan on the first few days of drying , until you think you can get away with just pulling air past the drying buds.
'
if you accidentally overdry, boveda makes humidity packs which will bring the rh back to 62 in the jars, with no burping necessary.
It's smarter to overdry a little and go back up with the packs then to risk a lost crop, JMO

I jar long term at ~62%. Months and months. Once you're below mid 60's you're good. I like a little moisture so I don't go below 60%. I leave a meter in each mason jar and track them.

My biggest concern would be that they dry to 62% too fast. The slow drop from ~70% to ~60% is a good thing. Well, a little faster from 70% to 65%, but I like to creep lower after that to low 60s.

If I use a dark closet it will be 63% RH, I checked with hygrometer.

I run my A/C 24/7 at 73 degrees to keep my flowering tent from overheating.

I can't get the RH any lower in my house, sounds like the tent is needed....

Not necessarily... Your refrigerator is dry. Put a mason jar of bud in the fridge with the lid off. Maybe 5 minutes. Open the door, quick put the lid on before you remove it, screw it on and remove the jar. Don't open until it comes back to room temp. Playing around with that can easily speed up drying in any humidity

I read it on a forum some time ago... I've only tried it once. Works, though! And you already own it (the fridge). Surely there's something else you can spend the drying tent $$ on?

I mean, you can dry all the way down to 62% easily. Then drop it to 60% or whatever. Curing is said to stop at 55% and cannot be re-started by re-hydration.

I used a spare closet.. If you have one you can decrease the humidity by going to walmart and getting a huge box of rock salt. Put it in a pan in said closet and it should decrease RH by ~10%. Or, at least it did for me

Rock salt Sounds like a great
idea!

I have to figure out how to seal up the closet, damn louvre bi-fold doors.

Tape And Panda film should do it to seal my dumb Door now That I think about it!

there's also a product called "damp rid"

it may be a good idea to suspend the rock salts sort of the way they do with the damp rid packs, if you really need to lower the RH faster. More humidity must pull through because it's elevated in a perforated cup

I was looking at the long term need for a place to Dry.
I don't have to have one now because I am not set up for a perpetual harvest yet.

But I will need a permanent drying spot someday!

And this will be when you get a tent for drying. Glad I helped!

My RH in my apartment is 65-70 all the time and all I did was hang for 3 days or so in a non sealed closet, and then jarred with boveda 62% packs. I think you will be just fine if you keep an eye on hem and invest in those cheap boveda packs, one for each jar of bud. I'm no pro, but it worked for me! Damn oregon and it's damp air.. Good luck man!

Interestingly enough, I just bought a boatload of boveda 62% packs today on eBay as I'll be starting my perpetual harvests next weekend.

Just about to order a bunch of Caliber IV hygrometers as well.

I think I'll just dry for 2-3 days then in the jars they go with the humidipaks.

Just ordered the boveda 62 12 pack and a dozen VKTECH hygrometers from Hong Kong.
They will be late but I will be able to add to finish my cure
Thank You to all!
