I actually am not. I'm lucky enough to be able to work a job that allows me to be able to pay my rent, believe it or not

You ought to know something about the history you cite. The problem with mass executions of people who disagree with those in power is the same thing happens to them when they lose power.
Within a few years, every leader involved in the overthrow of the French king's government had been executed. That includes people on both sides those for and against the king's rule. EVERY leader at the time of the French king's overthrow as executed and the guillotine was the main instrument for that. First one side and then the other, depending on who was in charge.
So, no, the guillotine is more an instrument of suppression than freedom.
