WAY CHEAPER..... there would be no demand for it. It would be everywhere. Dealers who have steady cleints would have to get real jobs becuase everyone and their moms would be selling dubs for 5 bucks

medical weed is still roughly the same as street prices depending on where you go, if it was legalized everyone would be growing there own few plants for themselves....but with the assembly bill 390 (legalize pot for 21+) in california, supposedly ounces will go for 50 bucks + tax....thats IF the bill gets passed

I was talking to one of my friends about this today. Portugal has legalized ALL drugs, and it's turned out very well. The U.S. sent someone over there to look into it.
I mean this country's suffering a lot from the drug war right now. Pretty soon, something has to give.

Cannabis wouldn't make very much money if it was legalized. Competition and supply would make prices too low, thus resulting in a reduced industry. This is why it doesn't make sense to legalize it for the economic downturn. I read a report, and it would require $300+ billion to create an oversight system, make taxes work, and reform the laws. I'm not 100% sure about the black market numbers, but I would estimate that the market is worth roughly $50 billion a year with current prices. Now, if things were to be legalized, prices would drop even further, which would split that $50 billion in half or so. We would then be stuck trying to pay off our initial investment ($300+ billion) with an industry that only makes $25 billion a year or so.

with all the coffee shops that would be available people wouldn't bother making plants
and making plants without a licence would probraly be made illegal because it would be considered traficking.

The Mexican Cartels killing Americans might also help. There was a Mexican Cartel related torture and killing in Alabama not to long ago. If nothing else, it might scare people into legalization to get rid of the cartel.
Sooner or later someone important will hopefully realize that the gov. violating peoples' freedoms is unconstitutional.
We should get a lot of RIU'ers to start a community somewhere cut off from any governments reign. Maybe we could conquer some portion of a weak nation's land and set up our own country. We could call it Tokeland.

I forget the name now, some other memebr can complete the puzzle) but there is some work infront of legeslators now relating to the legalisation of pot, I know it was posted here...
It called for hightaxation to reduce demand through priceing, which I though was all the proof it was something intended to fail.
As it will do nothing to counter the dark side of substance supplies.... All the incentives stays there as long as you can undercut the government price and still make a good profit.

motorboater, where are you getting the $300+billion number? I can't think of any oversight system that even remotely costs that much money.
Anyone can legally brew their own beer without a license. And it doesn't take months to do. But people don't. The reason is because people like consistent quality, which novices (of any hobby) are incapable of doing but also people are lazy.
