I am really trying to do EVERYTHING by the book. But I must be missing something... I've read though a really good amount of forums, seen movies, watched some youtube videos, read a few hightimes articles and I think I'm doing everything right but for some reason my clones keep dying!!!!

I have a hindu skunk mother plant that is growing GREAT under the 1000w hps!
My main problem is getting the clones to root... I'm pretty much doing everything by the book or at least I THINK I am. I take really good cuttings off the tops of the mother. I use a clean razor blade, cut at a 45 degree angle, imediately dip in rooting gel, cut big leaves in half and place in water. I was originally putting the clones into a cup of tap water. The cups were inside a foam ice chest and was wrapped with saran wrap to keep the humidity really high (I also sprayed with just plain tap water daily and aired out the ice chest everyday). I have a t5 high output flourcent lighting system that they clones were under. 2 1/2 weeks later nothing happened and they all looked dead!!! I did this with at least 50 clones within a 2 month period of time and no results!
I tossed them and picked up an EZ CLONE machine because I read aeroponic is the quickest and best way to go when dealing with clones. I've had the ez clone for about a month and I'm having a really hard time getting this to produce roots also!! Round after round they keep dying!! I've tried different ph levels and no results (tap water, ph lowered to 5.5, as high as 7.5). I'm still doing the same routine with the cutting process (razor,45degree,gel,cut leaves).
It seems like the stem is rotting for some reason. When I pull the lid off the system to see if I made any progress the bottoms half that is exposed to water looks like its rotting! Its a brown color and it feels very weak... I really don't know what else to do. I thought I had the best system on the market for producing roots! I need HELP!!! I dont know whats going on her
