i have no clue!!

Hi I am in a stealth grow small cupboard have a 45w cfl on my pant atm as she is no bigger than 2cm tall she has 2 leafs not counting the 2 baby leafs it appears she is trying to form another 2 but has stopped she hasn't grown moved or done anything it's almost 2 weeks old now and is tiny still no bigger than your thumb nail in height and leaf span. She has started going yellow? I'm using 50/50 coco coir and perlite 7ph and my water is RO water meassuring 6.0ph I really don't know what's going wrong?

I know they don't need much in nutrients, but they need SOME. Perlite and coco isn't a whole lot to feed it. Feed it a nute solution at like 1/10th or something and see how it responds.

I grow in sunshine mix which is also a sterile medium, and I can usually go 3 weeks with like 5 nodes until starting to feed. How big are your containers?

I'm scared of using nutes so early on but the way she is looking can't go much further wrong. It's 2 weeks old on her first node but it's tiny literaly from tip to tip of the 2 leaves are only the size of your thumb nail and the same in height and I see other people who have plants on there 4th node by this stage!! If I do use nutrients how often should I use them as she is so small? Sorry and containers are about 700ml pots I think got some pictures to give an idea but if they don't work I apologise I'm rubbish at forums! The pots are about 6" across and 6" deep

yeah that looks like no nutes at all, very light green. Start really small on nutes and see how it responds, just don't overdo it. Next time I'd probably start it in a cup or something small in a seed starting mix before going to that pot.

Did you rinse out your coco before use?Sometimes it can have a lot of salts in it.Even if you bought it as washed.

Right on. Give her some food.
keep in mind "Roots before Shoot"
She puts out a root system first to support shoot growth.

The light is too far away, and forget about coco/coir: It's $3 for 8 litres for a reason.. It's nothing more than shredded coconut garbage.

Perlite is an excellent additive, but on it's own I've always found it to be lacking. No doubt, if you have your ph and ppm just *perfect* then perlite would kickarse but I'd hazard to guess that maintaining a flawless ph and ppm is a bit above you at the moment.

The colour spec of the light is also important: I don't mean "it's better to have 60-65K" kinda important, but "Zero growth because the plant has no usable light" important.

The seedling has all the nutes it needs in it's first pair of round coly-whatever leaves, and needs nothing from you until those brown and die.

The medium is the cause of this, very ordinary, coconut husk. . Next time use canna terra soil and you wont go wrong hydrodave, terra vega every watering after week 2.

Try adjusting ph to 5.8 and if you bought one of those cubes of coco for example coco tek. That stuff needs rinsed off good IMO. I would ph ten gals to 5.8 let it break apart then to another tote with holes in the bottom where I would rinse through the medium. I also had to feed seedlings in that stuff because there is absolutely no food in it. After first week of growth I would hit it with a low feeding and once I did that it was off to the races. I also would feed every watering and cal mag is a must when in coco.

Awesome response guys thank you! I'll drop the light a little and have already put a 1:10 nute solution which has 1.1.1 so very week see how it responds. If all fails ill start again with a smaller pot to start. I have rinsed the coco and no salt even to the taste so np there hopefuly. You mentioned canna terra soil is that a soil I can use from start to finnish and its ready to go out the bag?

Ok so it looks like feeding is the problem from my grow medium to nutes. With the amount of hastle I have had with coco what would you guys say to use something that is awesome of course but is there such a soil that can be used from start to finnish? Where there is nothing I need to adjust or add? For now I have fed her with a 10:1 dilute of 1:1:1 nutes and lowered the light down closer. Oooh and the light is 6400k is that all kl? Yeah you're medium you're using would be great for a hempy bucket, but for a standard soil grow it will need a lot of attention whereas using a soil like FFOF you're good to go for at least the first month and just have to water every 3 days or so. Since the roots haven't taken off yet it's still not too late to scoop her up into a cup and fix your soil.

Unfortunately I am from the UK and any Fox farm products are a nightmare to get hold of the nutrients yes but the soil can't get it anywhere! Does anyone know of a soil to use that is easy to get hold of in the UK?

If it's just a soil grow, go out and buy a bag of potting mix: as cheap or expensive as you like - the plants don't care how much it costs, really

Toss it in a bucket with some perlite at a rate of about 30% perlite 60% potting-mix. And toss it around like salad. Remember, this will be a home for your plants for months to come, so you won't have to do this again till you start more plants, and it's worth going to a bit of an effort to make your own soil-mix.

Other things you can add are organic compost, some of that nasty coir (only as a filler, I would never use more coir than potting-mix or compost), you can also feel free to chuck-in wome dried leave litter and any earthworms of you have them.

Just make sure that there is at least 30% perlite in the final mix, bit as much as 50% is even better if you have enough.

Flouros have to be within an inch or two for maximum lumen->plant absorpsion, and at about 5 inches not much makes it to the leaves at all.

Temperature matters too, there are lots of factors but you really only need to remember that the goal of indoor growomg is to replicate outdoors: if it's vegetative growth you want, you need to create summer conditions, for flowering, winter conditions.

I would suggest not messing with PH at all, it's almost guaranteed to ruin any plant, and the PH of potting-mix is fine the way it is: chasing perfect PH will simply make it fluctuate, and freak your plants out.

Any high quality organic seaweed/kelp fertilizer will give your plants all the nutes they need, and I can confirm that my garden has never looked better than on seaweed.

Right then been busy today changed to soil with a 50% perlite mix and have gone down to a smaller pot and added stones to the bottom measured the soil ph just out of curiosity and its a nice 7ph. I've dropped the light to about 2 and a bit fingers width away from the plant . I also got a hygrometer to see what is going on temp is at 81°F and humidity is at 39% everything ok so far now just a case of seeing what happens!? How often should I water now in soil? I've herd it is when you can put your finger in and when you pull it out the soil there shouldn't be anything on your finger?

that's enough light for now, but to maximize it in the future place it sideways as the most like comes from the side. In that pot I'd water it once(transplant) and just leave it be for at least 5 or so days. Though for seedlings I myself drop a couple drops of water a day where the stem meets the soil, just to make sure it doesn't dry out as the small root is so close to the top. It looks really stressed so give it time to recover and forget about it, I know it's hard.

I had a seedling where I had planted the seed, and a couple days later I dropped the cup and the dirt flew everywhere, so I just dumped the whole thing on top of soil I had in a pot not being used. 3 weeks later I found the sprouted seedling sitting on top, no water for 3 weeks lol. Something ate all the leaves off, and the small root looked really dried and shriveled up. For the hell of it I planted it, and it turned out to be one of the best plants I have lol. They're pretty resilient.

Haha that's awesome and I'll turn the lite on the next light cycle it's asleep atm haha ok ill keep a close eye and on it still but Wont play with it it's just so hard not to fart about its exciting haha. But apart from the light everything looks good?

Watering by the weight of the pot is better thwn poking around in the soil, but with 50% perlite you really don't need to worry too much about overwatering, as long as you have ventilation round the plant you can water every day. UNLESS you used potting mix with slow-release ferts in it, if there's any of that kinda thing in the soil mix, then watering every day will overdose the seedling.

Mind you, I wouldn't recommend watering every day. Plants - like people - become lazy fuckers if everything is given to them without any effort on their part. You should try to water around the outside of the pot (especially in larger pots) because it forces the plant to stretch it's roots to reach more water.

So go by the weight of the pot, and water around the edges when it's starting to feel 50%+ lighter.
