I have a temperature issue! Except I need it hotter!!! Need sound advice.

I live in a very cold climate and the temperature in my grow space drops to 50-55 F at night. I don't want to keep the lights on at night (which I know would solve my problem) for a number of reasons.

The buds are actually doing really well, but I want them to do better, and I think this is an area I can improve on.

My question is this:
Are these things safe?!
http://www.amazon.com/Repticare-Watt-Ceramic-Infrared-Emitter/dp/B0002AQCPK/ref=pd_sim_k_4

I think this will solve my problems, I have read they can increase the temperature of a large reptile tank 10-20 degrees and my grow room is is about 3X3X10 high. Anyone know anything about the fire hazards of these things? Fire Hazard is really the the issue I'm worried about.

Any advice would be really helpful. Thank you.

those things are 1000 watts, this is 16w....way too small a space for a heater I think. Am I wrong?

The answer is it would heat the space BUT...This device puts off a lot of red light associated with ceramic heaters. You could make it work through veg. Maybe. But the red light would keep them awake in the sleep period and would eventually cause ubdue stress and then probably would just make them hermie and die. Your room has to be totally black during the 12 hours of lights out in flower. Iam in your same boat on my next grow. The solution for myself will be to run lights at night because that is the coldest time of day. I also will be getting a Oil filled space heater. No red light When it is keeping the place warm. Not to expensive off E-bay. Good luck

Hey zoe, I did a quick search on those. I would want a thermostat on it to be safe for sure. They had one on one of the sites I saw. But looks to me like a good idea for a small space. Also have a fan on it to spread the heat around. And make sure it is safe so nothing can fall on it or what ever. Maybe you could lower your 10' ceiling height and also help to keep the heat down lower. Is there a reason you have it so tall?

I grow in extreme cold aswell. Running my bloom side from 6pm - 6am keeps them warm during those cold nights. My grow side lights run from 3pm to 9am so this helps with heat generation as well. The hours no lights run are during the warmest part of the day. (Which still maybe only 20 degrees f. on a good day) If needed there is a small fan/heater with a thermostat on it kicks on if needed. These are cheap and available anywhere. Guess it depends on the floor area you have and if you can fit one.

Hash Lover,
I have tall plants and a rather large 250W HPS hood. While my space footprint is small overall, I have 2 massive healthy full size plants in it.

I guess my search continues. I am worried about these things emitting some infrared light that will hurt the plants during their dark cycle.

Perhaps a heating pad for reptiles?
