So I bought a 1000 watt ballast and the guy was saying it was a 1000 Watt HPS system. I dont know alot about this so I could be wrong but on my ballast it says "Use MH Bulbs Only"....Isnt this not an HPS ballast then? Im sure I could get a conversion thing.

My main question is are Metal Halide bulbs for flowering? If so anyone used one? Anyone have one on a wish list!?!? What 1000 watt MH bulb should I use to flower?!

Thanks guys rep for helping me.

You can use MH for flowering but thats only usually advisable if you do a mix spectrum of 2-3 HPS with 1 MH

MH is Very Good for flowering and makes more potent buds because of the uvb
HPS is good for flowering because the red light triggers a hormone , using both would be the BEST ,
so dont think mh is only for veg

no but for best results u should stick to HPS for flower and MH for veg if you only using 1 bulb, if you use more than 1 bulb mix them up is best result but obviously you can use either bulb all throughout but u will see better results using the correct bulbs for the correct peroids thats all im saying. I was going to use a HPS all throughout but i decided to give MH and HPS a go

Preferably MH is for veg and HPS is for flower. You can use MH for veg and flower aswell and HPS for veg and flower but my first suggestion is better for your buds.

without looking at wavelengths (spectrum analysis relative to PAR) any lamp is emitting you're just pouring energy over the plants without regard to if the quality (PAR) and intensity (umoles) is what the plant really needs for that particular stage of growth. There are many methods and opinions as to how to give a plant these conditions. And while many will work to some degree the quality and quantity of the final product can vary widely.

Plants stress when the light source shifts between MH and HPS. If the wavelengths are not available the plant will stress and may hermaphrodite on you. So it is important to have an understanding of what really works best for the plants needs and not provide excess wattage, heat and light outside the PAR ranges the plant is seeking.

Check out the grow journal on this thread https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/401594-blue-dream-800w-induction-lights.html for another way of going about this.

cheers
