Hydroton strainer - CHEAP AND EASY DIY

If you are like me, then you spend time washing out your new hydroton with a colander and two buckets. One for the unwashed hydroton and one for the stuff that has just been washed. It takes a while becuase the colander only holds a small amount at a time. I like finding ways to cut back on the amount of time it takes to run my operation and decided to make it easier to prepare my hydroton before use.

Introducing the Goldowitz patented Hydroton Strainer.
This project is very simple, takes little time and all you need to buy is three, five gallon buckets and one lid.

Take the first bucket and drill a bunch of holes in the bottom. I used a 13/64 bit because the holes are too small for the small pieces of hydroton to pass by or get stuck.

Next, take the second bucket and add four or five holes at the bottom. The holes should be oblong and at the very bottom of the bucket.

Take the first bucket, with the holes drilled in the bottom and place it into the second bucket that we just prepared. Thats it, you are done! The third bucket just acts as a catch so that we are not spilling hydroton dust or water when we transport this to and from the grow room. This ended up working very well, as I am able to flush out hydroton at a much faster rate and I don't even have to bend over to do it. This strainer takes the water as fast as my garden hose will put it out.

I hope that this info will help out members here, because Roll It Up has been a big help for me.:joint:
