Hi there, i just obtained 50% hydrogen peroxide andvwanted to get some advice from ppl who have used it b4.

Im running a pipe nft system & have noticed a strange smell from the reservoir, also there's globules of brown stuff clinging to the roots...the roots are healthy & white for now.. so i wanted to do a quick flush with peroxide just to be safe & sterilize everything b4 i put a new feed in.

My reservoir is 300L .. Can someone give me a recommendation on dosage please?

I also have some of this arriving soon , i have never heard of it before but thought I'd give it a go -

Also im going to try this Bacillus subtillis dry powder (same as hydroguard but cheaper)

Anyone that has any helpful information it's highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hypochlorous acid is great, too bad you paid athena 100x what's it's worth. Do a quick search on Amazon you can buy a gal for less than 30bucks. I have it in a thread here somewhere. It's what I use.

If you're running hydro, go sterile.

H2o2 is good, but at 50%, it's extremely dangerous for your eyes and skin. Use PPE and store it properly, if you spill it, dilute with water before attempting to clean.
I have read about a 0.3% final strength solution is enough? ( im not planning on leaving it in the tank with other nutrients, only a quick flush & reload ) so about 600ml in 100litres of water. Need to make sure i get this right!

Thanks.

IS that the amount you would add to a reservoir of nutrients? That seems like alot for 50%. Don't do anything until someone explains exactly how the calculations work.

At 50% I'd use 1ml/4ltrs that's based on growth technology H202 recommendation of 1ml/ltr with 12% daily or 2ml ltr occasionally.

I wouldn't give a quick flush it's beneficial to have it in there its a source of oxygen and it'll fight nasties for a few days.

Fwiw 50% H202 is dangerous stuff exercise caution with it.

Oh.. i do use silica to buffer my ph. Looks like thats a no go now then ?
I did it once. Made a mess in my bubbler tub. Then I googled it. The two don't mix well. Some info said it could lock out a plant. All I know is it was t cool. Caused a lot of work.

Ok thanks.. i have just cleaned and redone everything without silica & a 70ml dose of 50% h202 for 350L resevoir. So far so good.

I found this for 13$ a litre. (hypochlorus acid ) What are the main differences / benefits of this vs H202? So far I've been told i can't use silica with h202.

Thanks for any info

Residual effect is longer with hypochlorous acid compared to H2O2 and even longer with sodium hypochlorite that breaks down to hypochlorous acid when dissolved in water.

Chlorine is a weaker and safer oxidizer compared to hydrogen peroxide with longer residual effect.

Hypochlorous acid, is basically like using pool shock. Same idea, but hypochlorous acid is a more natural and 'safer' alternative. I write safer in quotes because using pool shock vs hypochlorous acid is basically the same. As stated above it lasts longer in your res than peroxide.
