I heard if u use tap water that white dust gets everywhere from minerals in water. If I use a zero water jug will this help with that or should I use distilled water in my humidifier?

And why not water with distilled
Doesn't do for helping the "nature" in your soil. Not exactly pH stable, in concert with feeding and the soil swing in pH.
It's more "needy" then RO and go's more to strip things from the soil them "work" with them.

White dust will cake up in the humidifier itself, not everywhere...at least not in my experience. I only use tap water in mine, my water is about 120 ppm. I have to clean the gunk out of the humidifier once every 3 months or so and have never noticed mineral deposits anywhere else in my tent.

There are several different types of humidifiers, including evaporative, steam vaporizer and ultrasonic humidifiers.

I think the ultrasonic is the type that leaves a white mist everywhere. The steam vaporizer can make the room "wet" if you remember growing up with one when you were sick. I would avoid those for growing, unless I am mistaken.

I am using tap water in a $40 vicks evaporative humidifier I got at rite aid, I put it right in the veg tent and it's putting about a gallon a day into the air, keeping a steady 55-65% RH in the tent. I shut the humidifier off when I shut off the lights.

So far, no mineral deposits but be prepared to change the evaporation filter every 2-3 weeks, it will start to emit an odor and get discolored. This could maybe be avoided with distilled water, I have not tried and have no plans to do so, this is working fine. The replacement filters are $3 on Amazon.
