Hps Question!

So I'm looking to grow 2 autos in a 5x3.5x6 closet would a 600w hps light be optimum or should I use 1000. Only reason I'm saying 600w is because I'm thinking about getting a vivagrow system. I want something I can buy in store not online. Anyone know where to get a 1000w system doesn't have to be vivagrow. I also live in the Midwest so keep that in mind. 2nd question. I'm going with the meathod of using only hps from seed to finish. So my question is do I use my 600w/1000w system the whole time or do I need 400w hps in veg then 600/1000w for flower. And can I use a 400 watt hps in a 1000w hps ballast? Since the system comes with a ballast already

I would get a 600w with a dimmable ballast. That is plenty for your space as you might need to dial down the wattage when the plants are small. 1000w would get way too hot in that space. 600w is much more efficient when you compare watts/lumens.

for a 600w lamp make damn sure you've got a damn good ventilation setup and nice cool air circulating through or your going to be battle high temps the whole time

It sounds like you want to remain as stealth as possible.
If you have the money take a look at solis tek ballasts, I bought a matrix and like it a lot. Just swap out lamps and the ballast does the rest, has a built in timer and remote.Very low failure rate.
Back to being stealth, some ballasts are more detectable than others . Some are downright interfering with neighborhood cable and shit like that.I personally had a cable guy say to me "so you're the one that's been lighting up the neighborhood" , he was talking about the rfi my cheap china made ballast was putting out.
There are other great ballasts but my only choice is solis tek.
Don't get me started on the waste a 1kw light is in most cases.
Good luck and happy growing.

Thanks for the replies! But only one question is left unanswered. Can I put a 400w in a 600 watt vivagrow system. I was going to use the viva grow hid hps replacement light which has added blue spectrums should I use a 400w hps with blue spec in veg or 600 watt hps blue spec throughtout the entire seed to harvest? I thought I was supposed to have double the amount of light in flower than veg? Is this not the case with hps throughout entire grow?

Strangely enough you want answers but I find no VIVAGROW system when googled to know or look up specs for which is probably why your question remains unanswered. WHAT IS A 600 watt vivagrow system when google i see 2 posts you made reguarding it and other non related posts. nothing on a HID GROW LIGHTING SYSTEM is it electronic or magnetic balast?

what ever your choice, remember this, HPS will put off 2x the heat a Mh light will. I went up 7* when I flipped and was running 86* for a few days before I put a huge fan blowing under the hood. then ran 81* 2 weeks after that before I got my portable ac unit hooked up. now I run 75* lights on and 73* lights off. :)

just a heads up. im in a 4x4x7 tent with ALOT of fans and in an a/c tube hood.

Two autos? 400 should be fine if your box is mylared. Youll want to go bigger in time so a dimmable 1000 might be the way to go if you dont want to do it twice but if you go that way then expect to spend money and lots of it on enviromental controling. Id just go with a 400 for the first time and then decide if you want to go bigger. Youll probly kill em anyway if your like the norm.
