my plant has been in 12/12 for 2 and 1/2 weeks. I want to add an hps light to it to help the flower process. can i just add the hps in with my current cfl and florescent tube lighting or do i need just hps?

also, what makes hps so good for flowering?

You can add it with your CFL's, the more light the better. Just watch for heat issues.

I think HPS is good because of the power. It gives off more lumens:power useage than CFL's do. HPS is just a lot stronger.

I use a 1000w HPS and it puts off 140,000 lumens in it's little 3' x 4' area. In that specific area it is brighter than the sun. The sun puts off 100,000 lumens if I'm not mistaken.

The HPS will get the job done - the fluorescents wont hurt, but aren't helping that much - best to go ahead a start a second grow with clones or seeds with those lights.

The HPS will have a more intense, penetrating light with more reds and oranges in its wavelengths to better replicate the autumn (flowering) sun. Might want to check into ceramic metal halides - they're getting some good reviews now. One HID bulb for veg and flower.
