HPS ok for Veg?

Please forgive my ignorance (this being my first attempt at a grow). I searched the forum but couldn't find definitive answers either way.

I have 31k-ish lumens worth of 6500k CFLs I had over my seedlings but couldn't get the heat under control, and since my 400w HPS had arrived I put it over them. This solved my heat problem, and since this room will eventually be retasked to flowering I was happy with that arrangement.

My question is will the little ones be ok for the next few weeks under an 18/6 light cycle with my Growbright 400w HPS bulb. Or am I shooting myself in the foot? I'm less than 30 days out from switching to a 12/12 (which is what the HPS is for).

should work better than CFL. when this harvest is done I will be running my HPS 18/6 for lots of fat bastard mothers....

No the HPS should be fine, the cfl have the spectrum you want but i would sacrifice spectrum for temperature. If you can, use a few of the cfls with the HPS and i think your plants will be happy

ive read that you can veg with hps if is strong enough.

The only problem will be your plants may strech out a lot. a few CFL's will take care of that.

Once the weekend comes I'll be able to split the old array of CFLs apart and rebuild it to perhaps better diffuse the heat and move them under it in their new room if it's that important.

I was just trying to be a little lazy and put if off till I split them (I have too many babies for the space I have) and put half under 12/12 to start a flowering.

HPS will work just fine. They will stretch a lot, but if you have enough space they will turn into monsters or outgrow the room.

I vegged with HPS, and my plats have grown really fast, they are thick and bushy, no sign of stretching or whatsoever

check my progress out, this is 20 days, day 1, day 10, and then each second day

odo i think the HID will always be better than cfl ...

i run 400wat MH lamp under my plants and i have 2x250watts hps .. it will be better if i put the hps under my girls too ?

400W, no nutes or whatsoever, 18/6 cycle

i have 15,000 lumens in cfl's and 15,000 lumens of hps, how many people can anyone else vouch that the hps will actually promotes stronger growth? Should i sacrifice spectrum for efficiency. HPS being 150W (2,100K), and 4 26W cfl's+105W cfl (6500k's). i have only one plant right now that is under the cfls, but i'm just curious whether it'd be worth it to switch
