hi there! i have just sprouted my 2 auto seeds, they sprouted from the soil today but i have a problem. i dont have any light except 400w hps light of mine. there is no sun where i live in this season and i have a flourescent on my room. they only got light from my flourescent on the ceiling of my room.

should i put them under my hps light or what should i do?

You can put them under the hps. Just keep it far enough they wont burn and close enough they wont stretch. Roughly 18" with 400w. If its dimmable you can dim and get it closer, also they don't need that much light at first and can save electricity. Pic is of my grow been under hps from sprout. To answer your question yes I would put them under the hps, or get a couple cfls and put them within a few inches of them. Cfls have to be very close to be effective. If you do get cfls 5000k or higher is better spectrum for veg.

It'd be easier control stretch with the cfls. I still have trouble with seedlings stretching with cfls, wouldn't try the hps - just my $0.02. I'm not a pro
On second thought, with no sun, I'd be willing to try hps to help with heat - sure wouldn't need that fluro.

I'm not a pro at all. But from what experience I have the stretch can be controlled to an extent even with hps. Just gotta find that sweet spot. Even then tho the genetics can play a big roll. I have same strain going, light at same height for all, entire time and one plant is a few inches taller than others.

I've done HP's from seed, but now I use CFL and led the incandescent replacements. I removed the defuser on the led , unbelievable how good this works. Under 30$ to buy the bulbs diy fixture. Also if you use CFL bulbs turn them sideways.

I would spend $20 and get an mh bulb to use for veg then put the hps bulb In for flower. You can use the hps start to finish but for a beginner you will end up with strechy sparse plants.

Just get a couple of cheap clip-on's.
100w day light CFLS.
Easily manage focused light.. no temperature issues.
Then move on to the HPS.
