Hey, this might be a dumb question but I was just wondering If you can buy a 50 or 100 watt HPS light with a medium base that will fit and run in an ordinary light outlit. Or do you have to buy fixture and ballast and all that magical crap? thanks 4 the help...sorry i'm a noooooob.

HPS lights require an ignitor to get the bulb going. Unless you have a lamp that was made for HPS (I don't think they exist) you need all of the "magical stuff".

thanks again. But while I'm here.... I am having problems with my seedlings. I germinated 5 afghan seeds and the two that have sprouted so far have come about a half inch above the surface of the medium and have just kind of stopped growing. they look like cobra heads and they look almost slimy/gooey. I'm thinking it's contamination but I'm not sure. does anyone know why this could be happening. My light is good. temp is good. water was disstiled. I just don't know. thanks for the help.

Pics would help but don't stress. I bet your head looked weird, slimy and gooey when you were first popping out too
