Hello folks of the interweb, Ive been growing for a few years now, and would like to try my hand at breeding.
A little info on my current grow:
Strains I am currently running include Humboldt Seed Org, Blue Dream (fem) X 4, Apothecary Genetics, Sour Diesel (reg) X2, and some freebie seeds, Samsara, Green Love Potion (fem) X 3, Delicious Seeds, Cheese Candy X2, Samsara, Holy Grail 69 (fem)
Seeds sprouted on 10/16/15. Vegged in solo cups under t5's. Once transplanted into 3 gal smart pots plants were put under a Sun System LEC 315W and the 4 ft 8 bulb t 5 light was then used for supplemental lighting. Topped all but 2 plants, lst'd a little, battled and beat Thrips, culled one Green Love Potion due to slow growth, plants then put into 7 gal smart pots and vegged until they all passed 2 ft.
Switched plants over to flowering 8 days ago (1/6/16).
6 days ago I noticed that Sour Diesel #1 (I number my plants based on which seed sprouts first) was showing signs of being a male. Soooooo, 2 days ago I got the little guy his own 2x2x5 tent, and 2ft 4 bulb t5 fluorescent light with red spectrum bulbs. Put him in there in another room separate from my females. My plan is grow him out long enough to collect pollen for some breeding. I plan to selectively pollinate the lower branches to preserve some quality nugs on the rest of the plant.
As such, here are my questions:
First, what do you think of this male Sour Diesel plant as a donor?
I like the structure, pretty tight internodal spacing, withstood pests, and has had no disease or nutrient deficiencies and has responded good to all nutrients. What do you think of him?
Another question, do you think I will be able to use this pollen on the ladies I have now that started flowering at the same time as this male?
I have read two theories: One states to pollinate females as early as possible, when the pistils are still white.
The other theory says to take the females flower time, which for all my strains is aprox 9 weeks, and subtract 4 weeks, which for my ladies would be around week 5.
Which of these theories is correct or do both work?
I would love to cross the Sour Diesel male with the Sour Diesel Female for a ton of pure Sour D seeds, as well as making some fun crosses with the other strains specifically my best 2 blue dreams as blue dream and sour d are 2 of my (many) favorite strains.
