Howling Hawk Landraces Indoor (and more)

Greetings! Pleased to be reporting my grow here. First off let me introduce myself. I am Shaun from Howling Hawk Farms and a new breeder in Oregon. I am currently working on my own line of seed and have some very exciting stuff brewing, but what I will be reporting here is working with another breeder on his seed preservation project. We're using some old school strains that are rare or can't really be found nowadays. Some pure landraces as well. I am in charge of the growing part. It's really great so far, makes the indoor garden look like a wild jungle. So I have planted on three separate dates and here is the list of strains. This is a licensed grow may I add and we use strict organic methods.

Sown October 18, 2015: Blackberry, Angola Red, Black Congolese, Black Magic, Blazing Dragon (maui x burmese), Burmese Thai, Aztec Gold (Acapulco Gold x C99) and Acapulco Gold.

Sown October 29, 2015: Durban Poison (this is one of my favorites, the durban you can tell they look uniform and have a cherry lime soda smell, great high), Nigerian Hashplant, Black Congo, Indian Jim's Northern Lights, Angola Red, Crazy train, Grimm Creeper, and Pablo's Lemon Thai.

Sown Nov 5, 2015: Aztec Gold, Black Magic, Acapulco Gold, Blazing Dragon, Pablo's Lemon Thai, Grimm Creeper, Panama Gold, Blackberry, and Blackberry x Durban (I literally just picked these seeds out the plant the same day from our Durban run going on, Durban x Gorilla Glue #4 seed coming soon!!! We also mixed to a lot of different types of OG kushes).

So since there are so many varieties we have several tents and rooms dedicated to this project. I will be only reporting on the tents and not so much the baby plants. Here are most of the October 18th plants (I have the final 5 plants of this group being transplanted and moved in tomorrow. So far I have noticed the Angola Red is the fastest to germinate and grow. All the really big ones are Angola Red. The Black Congo is the wildest looking plant and it's very very dark. There is one Acapulco Gold in this batch and it is looking good. There are two Aztec Gold and they seem to be the most vigorous plants so far. They have just been introduced to my starter fertilizer and seem to be very happy with it. Take a look for yourself.

As you can see there are some new additions that just have been transplanted before I took this picture. The other ones are responding well to their transplant and feeding. I got some nute burn just on the tip of the leaf and that's how I like it so my feeding regiment is good, which was a concern since I have never grown much landrace. I am posting the pictures same day I take them and these plants are at day 17 of veg give a take a day or two depending on how fast they came out of the soil. I am very impressed with this guys genetics so far. The wild jungle grows on! shaun.jpg shaun2.jpg

Also a bit more additional information about the grow. The plants are in Fox Farm soil and have only just started being fed fish fertilizer, I like to start with fish oil is easy on the young plant before I move onto the guano tea. They are being vegged using the gas light routine (12 hours on, 5.5 hours off, 1 hour on, 5.5 hours off). They have been treated also just after these pictures with neem oil and serenade.

Transplanted my biggest 9 and got their own tent. 3 more I will transplant and add to this tent. They a little droopy from transplant which is normal, they will perk right back up. They are growing fast with using 12-1! Happy Thanksgiving!

They also got lollipopped right after the picture. Keeping leaves free from dirt. I will be topping these in about another week and taking clones to sex them. We really want our two Acapulco Golds to be of opposite sex so we can preserve it. The main thing is out of 70 plants I am sure to find something of note that I will use for Howling Hawk's genetics in the future.

This tent has Acapulco gold female, Aztec gold female and the rest are Burmese Thai and blazing dragon. I pulled out two Aztec males.

These are Angola red, only one has shown sex it's a girl. I have a feeling I have 3 males and one of them smells awesome and has already good bits of resin on the stalk.

I'm going to top all the untapped ones and clone them, then in two weeks we will be ready for flower. Should have identified all their sexes by then and have them all in the tents they will breed in. I'm pulling the males out going let the girls flower first.

By the strain selection your working with it sounds like your working with Snow High. Nice selection you have there.
