how to supress sound from 12inch vortex fan??

how would i do this, is there a site i can buy a muffler for the fan or something i can build? ive seen box like things that the ducting runs threw are these mufflers??

Check out the "SHHHHH, your neighbors can hear you" thread - lots of good ideas/suggestions to handle the noise.

there are mufflers yeah they look just like mufflers for your car but alot bigger. carbon filter might help, fan speed controller might help, muffler should help.

Agreed vis a vis the carbon filter - that made my 6" almost silent.

Basically anything that restricts air flow (which is most likely where the majority of the noise is coming from, not from the actual fan itself) will help you out.

You could just build a plywood box around it and fill it with foam from Home Depot (called "Great Stuff") - that would help.

build a box around it, muffle box that byatch. build a box around it except for the front cut a hole on the other sideair in the back out the front. the box with the foam around it will muffle it nice. people do it with ac units and generators. it works great

thanks for the info and just to be certain, build a box around the fan then another box over the existing box, then cut some holes, then fill it will foam?
the two holes in the box are for the ducting?

Lol, nah dude.

Just need one box - check out the "Shhhhh" thread for details, there are pics and instructions in there.
