How to re-use jars that once held condiments for curing!

OK, so I will tell you how you can turn your relish, duck sauce, pickle jar into a usable jar for curing!

First you want to completely wash out the jar with hot soap and water.

Then fill the jar with hot water and soap and let it sit for a hour to remove what ever residue is left over. Shake occasionally.

When that is done dump it all into the sink. Then pour some bleach into the jar, just a little, and add some water. Let it sit for a good 6 hours to remove the smell.
Now you are close but not finished.

Last step is to remove the label completely. Do so by garbing a knife and CAREFULLY remove the label by scraping it off. Please don't cut your fingers! (works good if the jar has been soaked in water for a few minutes)

So now you have a clean jar with some sticky adhesive left over. Now to remove that.

Grab some peanut butter, preferably not the chunky kind, and smear it over the adhesive left on the jar from the label. If a mess isn't you thing grab a latex or non latex glove.

Rub the peanut butter over the adhesive for a good while. The oil from the peanut butter will remove the adhesive for the most part. Now grab some hand soap and wash the remainder off.

That's it! You now have a jar you can use to cure your buds with! So much for spending money on jars :P

Finished product will look like this. 100_0027.jpg I have bleach water in it to remove remaining smell and left overs.

:peace:

soap and water DOES NOT remove the pickle smell or the salsa smell.
neither does bleach.
or anything else.
Buy new jars.

i tried boiling. it might have worked. but im a retard and broke the jar. decided it was a waste of time and bought some more jars. lol
i think its the lids that are hardest to get the strong smells out off. Also most of the non-canning jars dont seal well anyway. once you break the vacuum origiannly they arent meant for longterm storage.
