How to hide the smell??

Concealing the odor is one thing, removing it is another. A carbon filter is the only way I have found to remove the odor. You can try and mask it with a number of different things, but depending on the strength of the smell it probably will be sniffed out.

So this means I need it in a tent so I can force ventilation through the filter?

Some sort of enclosure, unless you plan to filter all the air for your basement.

Have an old cabinent in your basement? Turn that into a grow cab! Stealthy and easy to maintain things such as Snell and temps. Your best bet would be not to grow...

The fans needed to use a carbon filter are powerful. Your mother might notice the humming from them and your other fans. How come she is not on board with this and your dad is? Is it because of the legality of the situation?

I guess. My mom doesn't smoke except on a rare occasion but my dad does and we're sick of trying to find it.

If mom smokes then it would be so much easier to just sit down, have a chat and get her on board... cause Jr and Dad hiding something like this from Mom won't fly for very long, chances are she'll notice the men in her house being up to something funky eventually. Especially when the smell starts to really be a fun problem around flower stage.
Plus it's so much easier to hide with everyone on board with the plan.

You can make a carbon filter for a about $10 if you look online. Everything you need at walmart and figure out a way to attach it to your exhaust fan outside of your stealth cab. The carbon I would suggest getting from a pet store. You can buy larger quantities and every month dump out the old carbon and replace it with some new stuff. Works great. Or you can just go buy a complete carbon filter but keep it cheap for now since momma may kick you and papa out if she finds your plants when she goes down to the basement. No light leaks will be more difficult than smell IMO lol. You can blame the smell on anything or cover it up with a bounty dryer sheet but if she goes down to wash some laundry and see's a shining light ffrom behind the old picture frames in the corner, you won't make it to the smelly stage with isnt for over a month.

Mothers are genetically predisposed to find ANYTHING. If you put a plant in the basement, she will find it. Good luck with your endeavor

most moms don't know about false walls, try finding a wall that's hollow and setting up in there
or you could do a speaker box faced backwards at an outlet , with a grill you lightproof that pulls off, but then u gotta figure ventilation and shit

A basement I think you could have alot of probs humidity cold temps people friends etc. Possible attic would be better since its higher up and ur mom is less likely to go into the attic everyday. The problems with any of your situations is that as your spending time with your female friend you have a window when ur mom is not home.to do what needs to be done then seal it back up and forget about it get your mom onboard or even go to a shed were most moms dont go would be your best bet just my 2 cents
