how to block light from a window?

I'm looking to see what other people use to block light from windows.

In my first grow I used cardboard and a blanket but there were too many light leaks.

My window is about 5ft(L) x 1.5ft(Ht). I was thinking about foil against the window covered by a blanket to avoid the hot spots associated with foil.

What do others use? Im sure there's a better solution I'm missing.

I would suggest panda film; it's black on one side and white on the other. Use the black side towards the window. I would use blue painters tape to hold it in place.

Why not just tape some black trash bags up ?

Like maybe 2 or 3 layers , its cheap and would work

If you are doing out a room do it properly and keep it silent. Place a blind over the window with a curtain fitted to the frame around it. Then build a frame around the window with some timber and place a piece of mdf or something similar over it. That way you know it wont leak.... Ever..... Almost no matter what. Even if you knock the wood the window will still be blocked for sure.

You can also cut a hole in the mdf and open the window to use as a fresh air intake or an exhaust without anyone ever knowing.

Just my stoned ramble, take it or leave it ;)

Edit : Panda plastic will work I just consider security far more highly than the time and money spent to make it undetectable.

i used power board, the 3/4" Styrofoam with the foil face ,i cut it to fit the opening then taped the edge with foil tape

The trash bags might work but I was kinda looking for a neater solution. I use the trash bags around the door for light leaks but it always seemed like trying to do it big on the window would be more of a PITA.

The mdf solution would be ideal but I use a window ac unit so I was looking for a fairly flexible solution to go around the tiny leaks all around the ac unit. I could probably build it around it and fill those light leaks with trash bags or panda film.

Block the entire thing off but on the inside of the room. That way the AC can pump air through a hole to a piece of ducting to light proof it.

|Window |Blind |Inside wall |Frame for MDF | mdf board with hole for duct

This way there is a void in the middle that the air can flow freely through the ducting.

Just my lil ramble !

Cool. I like this because I want something I don't have to check so much. Like loosening tape or something. I think this might be my long term solution but I want to go into flowering Wednesday so I'll probably do the power board for now
