since we know that plants like a lumen content around 3000 per sq. foot. We need to determine sq. footage to determine the amount of light to use.. Here's how to determine square footage: lets say you have a grow room that is 4ftx4ft. multiply both numbers and you will get the sq. footage. In this case we have 16 sq feet. Lets say I'm running a 1000 watt HPS light that produces around 107,000 lumens. Divide the 107,000 by your square footage (16). This total for this formula would be 6,687 lumens per square foot. A very easy formula for multiple lumen numbers. Just follow the above and you will see if your giving your plants the good stuff or not... :peace:

lumens are not that accurate i feel because its really a spectrum based number, not watts or photons. also I'm not sure where you got the number 3000 lummens (if it was a thread someone posted don't believe it) . i do 2000 watts over a 5x5 and yield the same as when i stretch it over a 10x10. i think the more light you can have the better its just a cooling issue

I feel to a degree your right about some of the above. I feel that for geater yields, the spectrum and lumen content is very important. Would you grow your 10 square foot room under 1500 lumens, even if the spectrum was correct. These number are a basis on obtaining premium yields both in quantity and quality...And the 2000 your talking about. What is the light source? HPS/MH/Fluoro??? I have personaly had a grow under fluoro's with each fixture around the 2000lumens mark. I had 3 32w 6500k and i grew 3 plants with those lights.It was good but not near as good as my HPS 600watt 8x8 setup. scrogg 10 plants and I believe that Bob Marley would be proud.
