well im going to start growing as soon as i get some lighting. i was going to go with a HID light but since i just don't care about yield i'm going with cfls.
anyway back on topic, two questions

How many 42 watt CFLs would be good enough for one plant?

What should i get, Full Spectrum, Warm White, Cool White? Or a combo of the three?

I am planning a similiar grow, just one plant for personal usage and I am going to use (4) 42watt cfl for my one plant. I am planning on using the full spectrum, depending how much attention to detail you want, the warm white and the cool white are both good to use however one is for the vegetative cycle and one is better for the flowering cycle I am not sure which is which though, look around some of the faq's and i'm sure it will answer that question for you... good luck with the grow, are you planning on making a journal?

are you growing from seed? what if that one plant is a male? or becomes a hermie? or you fuck up and it dies? try 5 plants and finish the best girl.

for one plant i'd get a 3 socket bathroom vanity style fixture, 3 two output socket adapters, 6 35watt or 42watt cfls. that'd give you about 15,000 lumens. good for a square foot. half your bulbs should be a warm white(2800k), half cool white(6500k). scrog it for max yield. maybe 4 ounces tops.

cost you 50 dollars to put that together.

I have 4 42W CFL's and 3 32 W CFLS almost all soft white... for 1 small plant... I'm not really impressed by the growth... So I'm just going to buy a cheep HPS.

is 21 thousand lumens too low for flowering??? i need advice.
you should be able to do 3-4 plants under 21,000 lumens nicely. Heat will be an Small issue because of how close you need to keep the lights to the plants (under 6"). The 42W'ers get a bit warm. As far as what color bulbs for what stage. Use a mixture for both stages but lean towards cool white(blue spectrum) for vegging and warm white(red spectrum) for flowering. The blue light keeps the plants short and grows big roots. Big roots=big buds. The red spectrum makes the plant stretch and grow buds. Hope this helps

also try keeping your grow area to around 1sq/ft per plant.
thats about right. the only spectrum i have is the... there like redishh white and i can touch them without burniing mysefl i vegged with those cfls and there doing fine no streaching at all. the temp is no higher than 28 celcius  i switched to 12/12 im just wondering i should add more light. i want more light for more buds!:joint: peace:peace:

im growing a single plant with a single 40 something watt cfl bulb. you can see the grow progress here:

https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/20886-newbie-grow-macgyver-style-pics.html

after reading the number of bulbs and watts some of you guys are using im going to up the lighting on this plant. probably go up to +100watts with two +40w's and one 27w bulb.

for those of you who use over 100w per plant, are you using this throughout the whole growing cycle or only for flowering?

this is my first time growing indoors... I have all together alittle over 200 W?
and I started veging outside... it was king of an accident... I threw some seeds in a pot and they grew pretty well after not paying atention to them for awhile than I brought them in and started flowering under CFLs to see if I could succsesfully grow indoors...
I have another box with 1 42W and 1 32W CFL for vegging 6 plants... there doing pretty good.

thanks for the info, i was thinking 100-200w would be overkill for vegging a single plant. that means i have a week or two to get my lighting right for flowering time.

I thought 42 W were 3,200 lumens... but than again I thought the titanic was the name of a pirate ship?

no man total lumens are added together 8 x 2700 = 21600 lumens

google it if you don't believe me
