How long should I Veg with a 250 MH?

Hey guys I’m new to growing inside and was curious with a 250 MH light how long should I veg. Right now I have a White Widow Max Fem and a Cali Kush that I have had for about 20 days since I planted in soil with seeds. My biggest concern is I’m afraid I become too greedy, veg the plant longer so it gets bigger then to end up with a 5ft plant that doesn’t get enough light off a 250 HPS bulb. I do live in Florida and most days (clear sky’s) the plants get about 8 hours of sun mixed in with about 16 hours from the light. The plants are already going past one foot in height. When I do flower I plan on giving them 8 hours of sun (weather permiting) and 4 hours of 250 HPS. So basically should I start changing my light cycles now or can I get away with waiting a little longer.

A 250 watt needs to be sort of close to all the bud sites and shouldn't be grown that tall because of it. Within 12 inches to receive enough light to bud a little under 10 looks like the sweet spot. I say keep your 2 plants as small as they will grow. Try to lst them to get as many bud sites as close up to the plant as possible. I say flip as soon as you get em to flatten out nicely.
