How far away should 1000 w halide be above veg state

THE LIGHT IS HOT BUT NOW I HAVE IT 3 FEET ABOVE THE VEG IT SEEMS TO BE A BIT FAR, SHOULD I USE THE FAN TO KEEP IT AROUND 70 DEGREE AND PUT THE LIGHT LOWER????

I let some tomato plants overgrow my tent recently and I had to raise the lights for them and so all my other plants had to kind of stretch up a little...which looked awful, but I just trimmed the tomatoes back quite a bit and rearranged everything and lowered the lights as far as I could and all the plants are filling in again thank heavens...they looked weird all stretched out and what have you...Anyway the plants will grow to the light, if the light is low they will grow bushier sooner because they don't need to grow up to the lights...if you leave the light high they will stretch to it and once they get close again then the bottoms will start to fill in a little better..but it takes longer, and you end up with a much larger plant than you may have wanted....it is better to have the light closer...but with a 1000w I would say it isn't too big a deal in veg...so there is the info. You decide. I can go either way and be happy, but both reasonings make sense...so...

It is a matter of preference...

Use your back hand to see how hot it gets, if your back hand get uncomfortable then it will be uncomfortable to the plants too.Find your sweet spot where is feel's nice to the back hand, but close enough so where the light is low enough to get the best lighting.1 to 1 1/2 feet works best.

I find with my air cooled hood, I can get my closest buds to 8-9'' from the 1000w light, but doing it that close, I have to watch the light all the time to not burn the plants, or buds when the take off.
